Hello to every one and nice to meet you all.

I guess pain wise I am doing good have not needed to take any pain med yet. coughing at the main port sight is a not so fun time and sneezing that takes your breath away for a second but the pain subsides.

My main issue and question is everyone tells me the vomiting will go away in a week or so well the problem is I have not even felt like vomiting. I am doing the liquid diet thing but I have not felt full or nauseous. I have been holding back eating large amounts because I do not want the band to slip or anything. i feel like my biggest issue now is being SOOO tired of the liquid diet even a piece of dry toast would be a banquette right now.

Any suggestions or comments and should i be worried something came unhooked or something as I do not feel sick at all?

Thanks

Rich

You should still be in the liquid diet iirc..its only been 5 days.we are supposed to continue it for a month.

I personally haven't have no nausea at all. Just port pain and feeling bloated.today is my first Protein shake and it smells better than it tastes lol

I like you had no nauseous feelings or vomiting. I was on Clear Liquids the week of surgery (mine was December 17), and this week I'm on mushy wet foods baked or mashed potatoes finally! I can have canned foods the rest of this week and next Wednesday I start cooking again! This way my stomach has time to heal before I go to chicken and fish and other veggies.

Just remember to eat very small bites chew them well, and you should have no problems.

You wont feel full so soon after surgery. The band is kinda just hanging on there at this point. It will be a few weeks before you even get the first "fill". I just got my 5th fill and I am finally in the "green zone". It is such a slow process and you have to be very patient. You will get there...Believe me, you will get there. Stay within your doctors recommendations on calories and food. There is a reason for it. Once you get the first fill, you will still be able to eat a lot of "junk" but avoid it all. Only eat the amount that is recommended and start a good exercise program. You will be doing it for the rest of your life. I just had my surgery on July 15, 2010. So I can tell you that around 5 months out is when you will start to realize how life changing this thing really is and you gotta stick to the routine. I lost most of my weight before surgery with my highest being 305 pounds in May 2009. I am now 188 pounds and I love the new me. I went from a size 24-26 to a size 12. This is a tool to help you so please, avoid the "dry toast" if you can..lol I rarely eat any kind of bread now and cake and Cookies are not on any grocery list that I make. I have found that since the Protein is the most important part of each meal, I make healthier choices now. Low fat, sugar free etc..I watch my calories and exercise each day. Stay within your guidelines and you will start to see a new and improved you emerge. I am so excited for each of you that have decided to take the "plunge" and if you work hard, you will reap the benefits. Good luck and dont forget why you decided to do this. :)

I was also banded on the 20th, and my recovery has been a little more difficult than I expected. I wonder if it's because of my age...(43). I'm following all directions, though not getting in as much Fluid as needed. I've had only one episode of very mild nausea last night, stomach pain, gas, etc, and generally just feeling weak. It does seem that each day gets better, though. I think I had unrealistic expectations that I would be up and about the day after surgery pretty much doing what I wanted....wrong! Feel blessed if you had a great recovery-anyone struggle a little more than you expected?

I was banded on the 21st and OMG am I happy to see your post. I had no idea of what to expect. No one told me how it would be after surgery - recovery nor the diet so I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. I have had pain but refuse to take pain meds (I hate them) but noticed today that I have bruising on my stomach where I believe I must be hurting myself at night lying on my stomach and turning and pulling unconsciously. But then my biggest struggle is the idea of how long I have to go without eating. I mean if not eating "real" food was not an issue for me I would NOT have needed the lapband, right? RIght.

I've been faithful to my liquid diet in fear of messing something up but it's so difficult knowing what is and is not acceptable to eat. I know that I have not been eating the right amounts bc I do feel hungry and I get heart burn from all the gas built up from me not eating. But when I do drink something I feel "funny" not quite nauseous but not well either. Anyone else experiencing that?

I start the full liquid diet tomorrow and I was sooooo very excited until I see more confusing information (my biggest frustration with this whole ordeal has been the lack of information provided to me). What is full liquid diet acceptable?? Some say I can have oatmeal and grits, etc but some say I can't have that for another 2 wks. So I'm on shakes & yogurts & clear liquids for 2 more weeks????

But my advise would b not to eat any breads or anything else for that matter this few days after your surgery.

YES. I did. I felt the same way... after reading a ton of posts on this site I thought I'd be up and ready to get back to life one or two days after surgery....wrong. It's been 9 days since surgery and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. My stomach was sore, I was feeling some dizziness (probably from not getting in enough fluids) and I've just all around felt weak or run down. Oh and I don't want to forget the gas pain and bloated feeling! Yuck...

I would give yourself a week to recover to all you pre-bandsters!

But this is all totally worth it!

To a new year of good health and (skinny) happiness!! :P

Hiya....I was banded recently as well and had some similar questions as you. I am so glad to see I am "normal." I haven't felt a bit of restriction. I was soooo excited to get on full liquids again after two days of Jello and diet juice. But I still feel like I could drink tons more than what is on the sample diets. As far as the oatmeal and the other stuff, that was on my pre-op liquid diet but now is on the pureed list for AFTER surgery.Even yogurts and puddings were on that list. I was pretty disappointed to see that! I was so looking forward to feeling some texture in my food again...ah well...just a few more days before I get to see the dietician again and hopefully get to start the pureeds!

As far as the bruising.....I'm sure the doctor will say that is normal..Most likely it's not from any activity you are doing while you are sleeping. It takes a few days for the blood to settle near the surface...as it travels down from inside the abdominal cavity...My worst bruising is showing up around the top of my belly button, not over by the port incision that hurts the worst. I had a surprise hiatal hernia that my doctor repaired at that same time, so I blame that for my pain. I'm still taking 2 or 3 doses of the lortab each day but think I'll try switching to tylenol today...Wish me luck!!

Here's to a Happy New Year in our slender forms in 2011!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
