How long before exercise?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 20th, and I am kind of anxious to do some sort of physical activity. I hate walking but I like to go on the elliptical or do physical games like dancing or tennis etc on my wii. I want to do something but I am afraid of messing something up. I go for my post op appointment on Wednesday but I don't want to wait. How long did it take before you guys did stuff besides walk?

I was banded the 6th of December, and met with my surgeon's team yesterday. They said exercise in moderation is okay, as long as there is no lifting over 15 pounds. So I'd think aerobic activity would be fine, if low intensity. If you feel faint, or have rapid heartbeat, stop. Stay hydrated. Remember, no matter how good you feel, you are still recoving from a major surgery.

Take your time - you're only three days out. If it was me, I'd wait another week at least.

I believe I waited 2 weeks but you should listen to your doctor and your body. If you try something and it is too much then don't continue. I think aerobic exercise would be ok but your stomach might hurt a little with some movements.

I can't lift anything over 20 pounds for 2 weeks. I am going to wait at least a week before I go walking at the gym and maybe the two weeks. I want to exercise too but don't want to mess anything up. It's not worth going in for another surgery.

I will wait til at least my recheck to talk with the dr. Thank you. I was just wondering because in the veterinary field we tell clients for their pets no running jumping playing for like 6-8 week. I was just hoping it wasn't that long.

Now my shoulder was bothering me before I went to sleep and now here I woke up at 2 with it really bothering me and so I have a heating pad on it trying to fall back asleep. I was hoping the gas was all gone, but I guess not :(

I was banded on 11/29. At my 2 week check up my doctor said i should be walking, but not doing a lot of bending over. It takes about 6 weeks for the port to form scar tissue around it and I could mess things up if i bend a lot.

I returned to the gym 10 days after my surgery. I waited until I went to my post-op visit with my doctor and he said as long as I didn't lift weights, using the exercise bike or treadmill would be fine.

Thanks for posting this question! I was wondering the same thing. I may get on the elliptical for a moderate amount of walking but wait to hit it in full-force next week. My doctor said to exercise 45 minutes a day with a heart rate of 120, but he didn't say when to start and I forgot to ask!

Prior to surgery I was doing an hour a day of lap swimming. Four days after surgery I went to the gym and progressively lengthened the time and increased the incline on the treadmill. While I prefer the eliptical I find it to be more intense; and you have to pull yourself up to get on the machine. I think that could be hard on your abs which post surgery will be hurting. I would do the treadmill (most gyms have tv's to keep you entertained) for the first couple weeks before trying something more agressive.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
