Night 2 at home and don't feel right

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. It's night 2 at home. I'm not in as much pain but I don't feel right. I can't really eat much. I've nibbled on pudding but that's it. I can keep it down as well as Water. I'm just very shaky feeling and can't keep my eyes open. I'm starting to get worried bc I feel so odd.

I would recommend speaking with your doctors office regarding what you should be eating. My doctor said Clear Liquids for 1 week ie broth; but also Protein Shakes. Second week I could move to full liquids (tomato soup) plus Protein shakes I don't doubt your tired if you are only drinking Water. I would stop the pudding no nutritian really in that.

Amber,

I too think you should give a call to your doc (don't think twice about having someone paged, they would rather hear from you then not hear from you). It is hard to say what is normal and what is not normal for you. Not sure if you have any chronic conditions or if you are taking enough in. I don' t think anyone here can reassure you as much as your physician can. Please think about doing so. With that being said, I think my second night was the toughest for me. I wasn't in pain but very uncomfortable. The next day, a lot better!

Amber,

I'm 7 days post-op today. Night 2 for me was HORRIBLE!. I did great at the hospital as well as my first night home, but on the 2nd day/night, I didn't feel well at all. I was afraid to drink. I was only to drink a few sips of Water and about 3 oz of chicken broth, slept a lot and sobbed wondering if I had made a mistake.

Make sure that you are taking your pain medication, that was one of my issues. I wasn't taking it as directed - I didn't take it at all. The pain meds help you relax. IT DOES GET BETTER! You will have to force to get at least some water down - try sugar free Jello. Day 3 will be better and Day 4, you will start to feel normal again.

Call your doctor if you feel really bad and you don't get any better.

Keep us posted.

~Steph

I agree with everyone that you should probably call your doctor... but in truth...you will continue to feel lousey for at least a week. I had my greatest issues with the C2 gas they pumped into my stomach.

I did take the pain medication at night just before bed and that did help. I had no appetite either and didn't get enough Protein for over a week... but it DOES GET BETTER with time. The time goes by quickly... after 10 days I was ready to go back to work full time.

I was banded on 11/15 had my 1st fill on 12/15 and have lost close to 30 pounds since 11/1... only a 100 more to go! lol

Take care and good luck.

I felt lousy for 3 days. No Protein? That helps keep your energy up and not be hungry...

I agree with others, day two was the worst for me. I would call your surgeon to make sure everything is okay. I honestly thought I had made a bad decision getting the lap-band. Tomorrow will be one week for me and I'm feeling 95% great! I'm just a little sore in the port area.

I would make every effort to get some Protein in.

If you are having difficulty getting in anything of volume, try one of those Protein shots! You can get them pretty much anywhere, Walmart. target... You get a good amount of protein in such a small volume (3 ounces).

Once you get past the immediate post -op time, try to get in as much protein in the morning. I have found that if I front load most of my protein in the morning, I usually don't have any hunger issues throughout the day.

Just my 2 cents!

Day 2 after anesthesia is cruddy. Your body will feel lousy as the drugs and anesthesia are metabolized and your body recovers from the mechanical trauma of surgery. You would feel cruddy, no matter what procedure you'd had, or what you were allowed to eat.

Don't worry too much about weakness-it's not related to diet at this point. It very well might be related to hydration status, however---your real focus should be on getting adequate Fluid.

The rest will fall into place as you start perking up. Your body's been through a lot! You will start to feel better before you know it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
