THINKING ABOUT THE SURGERY

Recommended Posts

Hello All! I have been looking into the surgery and called the insurance company but I felt as if I got the run around. I am 33yrs old with two wonderful boys, one is 5yrs old and the baby is 6 months. Since having the baby my body is gaining weight and not losing which isnt justifying much. But I do have high blood pressure and a few other medical problems. I also just signed up for a seminar to attend after the New Year. Please let me know if anyone else from North Carolina has Blue Cross Blue Shield and had the surgery done.

I had the procedure done on 01/14/2011 w/ Dr. Scott Bovard from Bovard Bariatrics in Raleigh. I have BCBS (State Health Plan). Deductible $600.00 and $2700.00 copay to Rex Healthcare. Started the process on 10/25/2010 by attending a seminar w/the doctor followed by several support group meeting. Approval within 2 weeks of paperwork being submitted. Good Luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
