Eating what I want

Recommended Posts

Grumpys Wife, while I am not at "perfect restriction" yet I can eat things that many on here have said they cant: scrambled eggs, chicken breat (my main source of protein), yoghurt, hamburger, bread and Pasta (though I don't eat it often because of the carbs), apples with skins. I also focus on taking small bites but not anywhere near the "pencil eraser" size that is mentioned. You also read a lot of posts about eating miniscule amounts, or going out to eat and eating only a couple bites. In my last meeting with the Nut she said I should be eating 3 oz of Protein and a cup of veggies. To me that's not a miniscule amount. Less then I ate presurgery but not miniscule.

My dr. told me the purpose of the band isnt to starve yourself by restricting food intake to very small amounts. She told me I actually need to eat more because I rarely eat Breakfast because of my schedule. I bought protien bars which I usually eat for Breakfast, they have 20gr protien, 3 grams sugar and 180 calories(taste great also). I thought I gained 5-10# before my last fill but I actually lost 6# basically by eating more. Im at 294, the first time under 300# in about 8-10 yrs. I was surprized when she told me to eat more but she was right

I have restricted myself from many things since being banded. However I would cheat every once in a while.

I set of goal of 140 lbs by Christmas and was getting really disappointed I wasnt going to reach that. Then I decided to look on the brighter side and be happy for what goals I have met this year. As a reward i decided to declare myself bandless and just do whatever I wanted until the new year when I can try to finish reaching my goal weight.

I have found since I have done this the things I do eat that are "bad" I don't even like anymore. I have eaten some bad things I did enjoy but also found i didn't want to eat a lot of them. Not because I knew it was unhealthy but because a few bites were satisfying enough.

Even though I say to myself it's ok to eat fast food etc I still find myself at the end of the day craving chicken and salad or eggs over fried chicken etc.

As a bonus with all my bad eating I haven't gained any weight :)

sometimes you just gotta let your hair down and enjoy life a little. Don't stress over the small stuff :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
