Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.. I hope what I am writing is correct for this forum. Im Brand New and just spoke to my Doctor last week about having Lap Band surgery done.. She said sure did I want to start the process.. I didnt expect that quick of an answer from her... Yes I do want to start the process.. My only concern is that I am 60 years old.. I dont have any major medical problems except that my Chol has gone up in the last 6 months. I do take Blood Pressure meds.. But my blood pressure is perfect.. Is there anyone in my age bracket that can give me any information. I have never had any Surgery and Im a little scared. I sure would like to hear the good and bad about the Lap Band... I am also seeing that there may be different styles of this Lap Band, if that is the case can someone give me that info also.. I hope I have asked to much of anyone.. I still have some years left and would like to enjoy it with my Grand-kids.. If i dont do something soon I will not fit in a seat on the plane...lol... Can anyone help me out..

Thank you

Hi there newbie....I'm brand spanking new on this forum and am not quite sure that I'm posting the reply correctly. Guess we'll see if it show up. Just wanted to let you know that 60 is no problem if you're committed to the program. I am 62 and I hit the floor running and I've never looked back. I was banded 14months ago in Houston. I wasn't huge but no small bud either. I lost 16# on the preop diet. Yes I was a little hungry, but more hungry for results so I NEVER cheated. I even went to Las Vegas just 2 weeks after banding and it was over the Thanksgiving holiday for crying out loud. I took my Protein Powder and had the restaurant make me strawberry milkshakes for Breakfast. And I ate Soup, soup, soup. Had a bowl of cream of mushroom soup for my thanksgiving dinner while my hubby had all the traditional food. I have lost 70# total. and I'm about 10#s away from my goal weight. I am wearing a size 4 or 6 depending on the clothing maker. And I feel like a million bucks. The Old Adage: nothing tastes as good as thin feels is certainly appropriate here. I know the traditional thought is that when we are older that it's harder to lose. Not for me, not with the band. And YES, I've had some times when I found myself eating too much or too fast. Then it's off to the ladies room to UPCHUCK. Not fun but a very good lesson. I wish you all the best in your journey to lose weight and get healthier for yourself and for those grandbabies. Please have the banding regardless of the red tape you may have to go through.

Good Luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
