Have a recommendation for self-pay in Dallas/Ft Worth area?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I've been lurking, but decided it was time to finally post.

Has anyone been a self-pay patient in the Dallas-Ft Worth area?

How much did you pay?

Would you recommend your doctor?

What was the timeline from first visit to banding?

How much are fills?

Ok, yeah, we're just in the beginning phases of researching all this, but a doctor seemed like a good place to start.

Thanks for the help!

Janet

I know Houston isn't the DFW area, but it isn't too far... My Dr. is AMAZING! I would recommend him to anyone.

My insurance paid for me, but I know his self pay is $15,000.

My first visit was October 14th and I was banded on November 9th.

check out his website.

Hi, my doctor is in Lewisville, and does his surgery at a surgery center in Fr. Worth; actually, it's in Hurst. Name: Dr. John Marsden. I am very pleased with him, if that gives you a place to start.

I used Dr. Anderson, his office is at Dallas Presbyterian. The procedure was performed at the Surgery Center of Richardson. I paid $15,000 and that includes free fills for one year. I have been very happy with both Dr. Anderson and Surgery Center of Richardson.

I used Dr. Robert Powell who also performs the surgery at Richardson Surgery Center. I was not self pay but I believe he has financing options. He performed my surgery, my husbands and one of my good friends. None of us have had any complications. My hardest thing has been getting the fill level right. He gave me very good aftercare and didn't take any chances when the port area had a little read around it. He put me on an antibiotic and I have done great! The people at the SCOR fill center are great too.

I was banded on 10/28/05 with Dr. Richard Benevides at the Surgery Center of Richardson. If I hadn't wasted about 8 months on insurance, I was scheduled within 30 days of getting the last turn-down on insurance. I was self-pay, $15K including fills for one year. I'm VERY pleased with Dr. B, his staff and the fill center. He has monthly overviews showing the surgery on video, etc. It's a really informative session.

I live an hour and a half from where I had surgery with Dr. Barker, but he was really good! I appreciates the fact that he is VERY experienced in what he is doing and professional. He only charges $12,500 using Vista hospital in Mesquite. He is SO popular though that at times the wait in his office is some what lengthy. To me, it's worth it, because I am confident that he actually does know what he is doing. His nurse is just so sweet! The price includes 4 free fills and surgery. After I have had all my fills I am going to look for a closer doctor, but only because he's so far away from me. It only took about 2 weeks to have my surgery after I saw him. If you have cash, they can usually get you right in. If you decide to use him, please mention my name GINGER WESTFALL. He likes to know who referred who.

I used Dr. Cribbins. He charges $17700 for self-pay patients. He is a little more expensive than most but the price includes an overnight stay at the Baylor Frisco Medical Center. Most of the other doctors in DFW do not have you stay overnight (I think).

At first I thought I wouldn't need to stay overnight but it turned out to be a good thing for me.

Dr. Cribbins has done about 1000 lap band surgeries and has a very low incidence of complications. I think he is a good surgeon.

Good luck finding a doctor. I think we are lucky in DFW to have so many good ones to choose from.

I WILL be using Dr. Benavides also. I just got my financing in place which took about a day and then I call LapBand Solutions to get the ball rolling. My mom, which is 66, just had her surgery with Dr. B on 1/9/06 and is doing awesome. Good luck in your search.

I too was banded by Dr. Powell back in August 2004, I had my surgery at Renaissance Hospital. We were so impressed with him that my hubby got banded by him last Monday at SCOR.

He is a very cautious doctor that listens to you. I'm not sure on self pay but I know he has financing options, I've seen the brochures.

www.weightnot.net is his website. Let me know if I can answer any questions about him and his wonderful staff.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
