Fluffy_Gurl 3 Posted December 14, 2010 I am starving at night, from about 4:00 till about 11:30 at night I am hungry. Its not head hunger either, like stomach growling aching hunger. I can eat whatever i want at night but cant tolerate food in the am till ive been up for about three hours. Not because my band is tight but anything that early makes me nausiated, always has. WTH? So tonight I ate 4 oz of chicken breast, baked and 1/ cup of green Beans. I was good until about 11:00 pm. Now Im starving, ate 1/2 cup cottage cheese half hour later i am still hungry. why? I feel like my body wont cooperate. Granted i dont really have restriction but i would have thought by now my body would be getting used to this. I am good during the day its just at night when my stomache growls and i am physically feeling hunger. any suggestions?
RandomRan 1 Posted December 14, 2010 If you are going to eat at night anyway, add another cup of veggies with your nighttime snack. When you make your dinner veggies, make two cups instead of one and save one so it will be easy to munch on them with whatever you eat as your nighttime snack. Cottage cheese alone is just not going to fill your tummy. All it will do is raise your blood sugar so you are more hungry later when it drops. I used to be a nighttime eater. Even got out of bed a couple times a night legitimately hungry and ate. I cut out all carbs completely this year when I found out I was pre-diabetic. The only carbs I eat now are from veggies (no corn or peas). It is a mind blow and almost creepy how rarely I feel hunger. When I need calories, I feel it, but no more night eating at all and it's really easy. I eat dinner about 6:30pm and am not hungry the rest of the night. SOOOO not how I have EVER been. It's a hard transition, but you may want to give it a try if you want to.
CalicoskiesNC 2 Posted December 14, 2010 String cheese really curbs my hunger. Also taking small bites and chewing well makes that snack take a long time! I can also drink half cup of milk and that curbs hunger. Not sure why it works but it does.
joycie 0 Posted December 14, 2010 I eat too much in the evening but it is almost always head hunger, or... saying you haven't had your prunes yet... or your yogurt... or high Fiber cereal... Fighting Constipation here though it is much better than it was.
ElfiePoo 109 Posted December 14, 2010 I am starving at night, from about 4:00 till about 11:30 at night I am hungry. Its not head hunger either, like stomach growling aching hunger. I can eat whatever i want at night but cant tolerate food in the am till ive been up for about three hours. Not because my band is tight but anything that early makes me nausiated, always has. WTH? So from 4 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. you're hungry. Don't you eat dinner in there somewhere? I generally eat at the same time every day 7 a.m., noon, 5 p.m. and I'll have a big mug of chicken broth with 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil and a splash of soy sauce in the midafternoon and evening. If I get up 2 hours later, then that first meal is my Breakfast and I still plan my other meals in relation to that - so Breakfast at 9 a..m., lunch at 2 and dinner at 6:30 or 7. I never skip meals. I also eat a diet that is relatively high in fat compared to others...about 60% of my calories come from fat and 30% from Protein. Carbs are under 20 and I eat roughly 1200-1500 calories per day. The higher fat *and* low carb keeps me from craving....even head hunger. Several weeks ago, eating like this, I was *starving*. I went in for a fill and almost immediate relief from that gnawing hunger. Perhaps you need a fill? Before you decide, I'd make sure you're at least eating frequently enough. Going from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. without eating and expecting not to be hungry isn't reasonable. .
Phranp 46 Posted December 14, 2010 Randomran ... nice to know I am not alone. I used to be a nighttime eater. I am better now, but still have to "fight the feeling" sometimes (like last night, but I made it) It is a mind blow and almost creepy how rarely I feel hunger. When I need calories, I feel it, but no more night eating at all and it's really easy. Same here, I rarely feel hunger - physically, just the need for calories - Protein I suppose. I still battle head hunger if I stay up to late. I eat dinner about 6:30pm and am not hungry the rest of the night. SOOOO not how I have EVER been. Ditto. I feel like a new person sometimes. Couldn't be happier about the "new me". It's a hard transition, but you may want to give it a try if you want to. It certainly wasn't a "walk in the park", but now that I am here ... a walk in the park every morning at 6 a.m. is just what I do! Another thing I do at night when I think I (or may actually be) hungry is drink a cup of hot herbal tea. Helps me feel satiated and lulls me off to sleep. Hope the hungries go away soon, Fluffy Girl. ~F

amybethy 0 Posted December 15, 2010 My nutritionist told me that if after I get hungry in the evening I can try a glass of mile or a sf cib drink.
miller3675 0 Posted December 17, 2010 I am so glad that I'm not the only person experiencing this! I eat very little during the day--in fact, I have to force myself to consume the little meals that I know I need. However, starting around 7 p.m. and going until midnight or so, I am very hungry. I usually try to have an apple (I peel off the skin) because that fills me up, but it doesn't always work...Maybe I'll try the string cheese that others have recommended!
