Possible leak!

Recommended Posts

I have had 5 fills since my 8/3 surgery. I have been dealing with "banster hell" since my surgery and I am 4 months post-op. I just assumed that I would have to push through until I get to my sweet spot and would start feeling that full feeling. I have been working my butt off with stopping when I get the slightly satisfied with my food, working out 4x a week and have been pushing through my hungry. When I went in for my 6th fill, I told my PA that I've been getting sick a few times a week because I get so hungry and it comes on so fast. She thought it was strange since I should have had 5cc's in my 10cc band. She thought maybe I had air in my band and pulled out my saline to take a look. I only had 1cc in my band. We'll, that does explain the hungry. I was told I probably have a leak and would need to have a flouroscopy to check it out. I did have that this past week and it doesn't look like my band is causing any issues (THANK GOD) it looks like I might have a slow leak right at the port. While I was still on the xray screen, they put in 2.5cc' in my band. I go back this Thursday to check my levels to see if they have decreased. My doctor did tell me my port is have a large angle and even if I do not have a leak, he was going to replace the port anyway. It would be a 20 minute procedure and I would be in and out.

I do feel better knowing that I'm not crazy not understanding why I'm still always hungry and not understanding after 5 fills how much longer I could continue on. I am upset thinking that I have to continue to push until I get to my sweet spot after the port has been replaced. I am so glad I said something because I really have been pushing myself with 800-900 calories a day without any restriction and working out as much as I can. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can you give me some insight on how things are after the port has been replaced?

You have done fabulously if you have a leak! I am sorry to hear of the problem. I don't know much about it. But once you get it fixed and get to restriction, I am betting you'll really get to losing without the hunger.

Wishing you a speedy fix and recovery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
