I dont feel different after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was banded on Friday and today is Sunday.

Other than some pain.

I feel the same.

Still hungry

I am able to take gulps.

I have not eaten solid foods. however my stomach is growling.

Is this normal.

I am wondering if they filled the band.

Anyone experience the same thing?

When they originally put in the band, usually they do not fill it at all. The time between when the band goes in and your first fill is time to allow the stomach to heal. I was banded on the 23rd of November. For the first week I felt full all the time, now I feel the exact same as I did before I was banded. A couple days ago I ate pizza! But I think that may have been bad because my stomach felt horrible all night. This period is all about will power. I started eating solid foods early, but I chewed a lot and have not had any problems. Hope this helps, Stacy

Thanks Stacy,

I am so temped to eat regular food.

But i definitely do not want to vomit or get sick in any which way.

I want to do as i was told ....liquids 10days after sugery....etc...

But if i do eat solids will definetaly chew very slowly.

From everything I've read, vomiting or PBing or sliming one time is enough to teach you why you don't want to do it again.

You're at the point where your stomach is adjusting to the placement of the band, and your stomach is healing from the stitches used to attach the band in place. Give it a chance to heal. Eating solid food now could cause problems, including even tearing out those stitches.

If you're seriously fighting yourself already over the situation, you're setting yourself up for serious problems later on. Follow the plan your surgeon laid out for you, and be successful. Derail that plan, and you're headed for failure.

You aren't yet "fully" banded, because you don't have restriction, the magic sweet spot that makes the band work so well. Once you get to that point, it'll be different. You're still weeks away from your first fill.

Hang in there. Follow the plan. Anticipate success. ;)

Good luck!

Dave

It is very important to follow your doctor's rules. Do not eat solids before you are told to. You must let your stomach heal. The band is stitched and it needs time for scar tissue to develop to hold it in place. You could cause a slip. Don't worry about being hungry just add more Protein Drinks to your day.

I was banded on 11/22 and had restriction up until a few days ago. Now, I find myself starving. Even so, I am trying very hard to stick to my doctor's orders of 600 calories per day. Like sam3841 said, it is all about will power right now. I won't have my first fill until around the first of the year. Getting through Christmas is going to be a test of that will power. Good luck!

See my nutritionist and doctor didn't give me a calorie limit, just to make smarter choices, and try to avoid sugar, alcohol, bread, fast food, etc. I don't eat regular 3 meals a day, I more 'graze' during a normal day, because I work a crazy schedule.

I wonder where they get 600 calories a day, did anyone hear reasoning behind that? It doesn't seem like enough? And that I need to eat atleast 60g of Protein a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
