ansoninc 16 Posted December 12, 2010 In January i will be flying cross country on Southwest. It is about a 5 hour flight. SW will give you all peanuts and pretzels you want. I will be banded 6 weeks by then and not sure what I can eat. It looks like peanuts and pretzels are out. Any suggestions? Also, with the new scanners will TSA think I have a bomb attached to my belly where the port is? This is sort of funny when you think about it. AlienBandit 10 Posted December 13, 2010 If it is only 5 hours maybe you can hold off eating on the plane? I would maybe try to focus on more liquids like Water then eating. If you do think you will be hungry maybe bring some powdered Soup and just ask for hot Water. Or you can buy yogurt while inside the terminal of the airport before you leave. However at 6 weeks you should be able to eat normal foods. Nuts are not that bad. Just chew chew chew a lot to make sure they are all ground up. Depending on your restriction at that time you might not be able to eat at all. I flew last year 10cc in my 11cc band and could eat during my flight but come the next morning I was a little sore ( felt like i did a major ab workout) and stuck to liquids and easier to consume foods for a day just to be safe. Lastly those scans are to only see whats outside your body I believe right? Since your port in inside of you I don't think they will see if. Even if they do if you have a medical card from surgery you can show them that or explain the situation. We don't have those machines here so I am not 100% informed on them though Safe travels
HeatherinCA 10 Posted December 19, 2010 6 weeks out I think you could have the pretzels or peanuts right? Peanuts are a good source of protein! Or do Water, or bring Protein powder? Cause you can't get the shake through security.
Jennifer Hathaway 12 Posted December 20, 2010 I was told by my doctor's office no eating a day of flying, liquids only. Your band can become tighter and could cause problems. And then you are away from your doctor if you get too tight.

AlienBandit 10 Posted December 20, 2010 I was told by my doctor's office no eating a day of flying, liquids only. Your band can become tighter and could cause problems. And then you are away from your doctor if you get too tight. All bands and doctors are different. My first band didn't mind me eating on my flight I could even eat chicken. I am flying again this week and my flight is 17 hours. No eating the whole time? Hmmmm I don't know. I am going to see how my band feels. If it gives me trouble at my first bite I am obviously not going to try to eat more. I am packing some Protein powder just in case but I am almost at the point of being too filled with my band. My doctor says that eating is possible but you should listen to your band. Also will you have a fill then? if you don't have a fill or don't have a lot in your band you might not even have any problems at all eating.

cheryl2586 3,053 Posted January 1, 2011 Nuts may be a good source of Protein but they are very very fattening. I wouldnt do pretzels either they may get stuck. Eat something before you get on the plane that you know will hold you like some scrambled eggs. I was eating nuts and guess what weight gain. Its not worth it.
