Dr. Vishal Mehta - Dr. Vishal Mehta

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am considering getting a Realize band by Dr. Vishal Mehta. Has anybody worked with him before? What were your experiences? Would you recommend him? Thank you, Pat

Hello out there fellow lap-banders,

Still waiting to hear from someone who has gone to Dr. Vishal Mehta.

I have United HealthCare. Had a long list of requirements to complete. Finally finished them! Yay! Now I am waiting for insurance company approval.

Wish me luck!

I am going to Dr Mehta, I will be banded early next year, but have already completed all the insurance requirements and had my meeting with him. He was very brief in my initial consult, just quickly explaning how it works. I havent talked to him since, Lulu, the office manager is very helpful and answers any questions you have quite quickly through email. She too had the lap band procedure and is a great source of info both from a professional view and a personal view. I wasnt blown away with Dr Mehta's "friendly-ness" or bedside manner (or whatever you want to call it) but it didnt bother me, I'm not looking for a friend I was looking for a Dr to complete this procedure.

I have Personal Choice and didn't really have any problems getting approved. Lulu told me what to get from my primary care doctor and handled everything else.

When are you getting banded? I'm curious to learn more about him as to what pre-diets etc need to be completed. I have a follow up with him next month where I assume he will review all this but like everyone else I am a bit anxious.

I know this is old but I had Mehta. I love him plus he's sexy as hell! I guess that helps that he isn't the most upbeat guy. He's straight and to the point and I like him like that. He doesn't mess around and he doesn't lie just to get your money. My band slipped bc I had a local dr to me(PA) doing my fills and once I felt I was too tight, he didn't want to take any out bc he said I was doing so well. No crap, I was throwing everything up. I'm getting re-banded on Monday and will go to Vishal only for my fills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
