Well, I'm starting my fourth week post op (banded 12/6). I was so excited the first 10 days because I lost 23lbs only to gain back 12 lbs! I'm still eating mushies and incorporating some new food into my diet. I have two questions for all you sweet bandsters:

1. did you gain back any weight from the liquid phase that you lost? If so, how much?

2. any food ideas for week #4????

Thanks so much, and I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!!!

Hugs,

Cindy

I'm in the same boat - 3 weeks post op, started mushies last week. Lost 13lb the first two weeks on liquids and have lost nothing since.

I am eating a pretty varied mushy diet and I am getting in around 1000 calories a day versus a bit less on liquids and it was just Christmas (which involved a couple of glasses of wine and 2 serves of Christmas pudding) so I guess it's understandable, if frustrating.

This morning, I was 105.1 which is the lowest I've been so maybe it's going to start moving again. And I havent gained which is a bonus.

But I guess just keep on keeping on, doing the right things. You lose a lot of Water in the liquid phase and I think your body kind of recoups that when you start more solid foods. I certainly can feel a difference in my clothes now.

I'm eating things like yogurt and tinned fruit, legumes like lentils and chick peas (made some wonderful dahl), soft salad items, eggs, mashed vegetables with gravy and my Christmas dinner was a mushed up serve of the turkey, vegetables and gravy - so you can certainly blend ordinary family meals to a mushy consistency.

I lost 10 lbs in the first week and put every one of them back on over the next 5 weeks! It's normal, you are normal. As far as suggestions for food: try for lots of Protein and veggies. Try to avoid carbs, they will make you hungry. Soups are good; chicken or tuna salad with lots of mayo to make it moist, Beans (refried or blended), etc. Best of luck!

And for an update, in the last day or two I have eaten All Bran with chopped tinned apricots (normal Cereal, YAY), tuna mornay, and tonight the kids had tacos so I had refried Beans, heated, topped with chopped skinned tomatoes, about 1/4 of an avocado chopped, taco sauce and a big dollop of natural yogurt. Tomorrow I'm going to a New Years Eve BBQ, I'm taking tandoori chicken burgers (they're supposed to be made from pureed leftover Christmas turkey but dont have any), had a taste at Mum's today and they're smooth enough to pass as mushy. Yum yum yum.

I'm loving mushies! There's really very few foods you cant eat if you put your mind to it.

As to regaining, my weight's started moving down again so I havent regained at all but I"m paying mind to serving sizes - I'm measuring out my cup of food strictly and I do not eat between meals - at all. It's literally falling off. I find I'm full after a cup anyway but as the restriction diminishes it would be too easy to start to eat more.

I know I sound like a broken record, but you are still in the healing phase, it's about healing not losing weight right now. Generally you won't lose weight on mushy's.

Don't fret. Just record your weight on fitday.com or some place like that, and find it interesting to notice the pattern of weight loss that is unique to you. I always lose, hold, gain, and lose more. That's just the pattern I have noticed, and now it doesn't freak me out or make me worry. I am not the perfect bandster...I know there are a few. Sometimes I make less than ideal decisions, most of the time I make good ones. This is just the beginning; pace yourself. It's a long journey. Good luck! Cindy
