Tally23 0 Posted December 10, 2010 Ok so I have noticed since my band has been put in a lack of being able to control burps or sounds coming up from my stomach if they make it through the band. I hick-up a lot I guess thats a burp that can’t make it back up. But lately I will just be talking and *buuurrrppp*…. Wtf….then I am totally embarrassed because I couldn’t control it. And I am in the medical field and talking to patients a lot. Anyone else experience this? Please tell me I’m not alone…lol
Just Breathe 0 Posted December 10, 2010 Ok so I have noticed since my band has been put in a lack of being able to control burps or sounds coming up from my stomach if they make it through the band. I hick-up a lot I guess thats a burp that can't make it back up. But lately I will just be talking and *buuurrrppp*…. Wtf….then I am totally embarrassed because I couldn't control it. And I am in the medical field and talking to patients a lot. Anyone else experience this? Please tell me I'm not alone…lol You are definitely not alone! This happens to me all the time. You'll be sitting there, watching a movie, take a sip of Water or whatever and then the gurgles! It's sooooooo embarrassing. My problem was that my band was too tight. Just had a recently had all the saline taken out of my band because I found out I had a bad slippage... so right now I don't have any Fluid in my band You're definitely not alone! EL Diva 1 Posted December 10, 2010 I'm so glad you brought this topic up! (lol, no pun intended!) I'm the opposite. I feel like I'm going to belch then it just disappears. I keep waiting....but nothing. I've only been banded for 2 weeks & am in the 'mushie' stage so perhaps this will change but is THAT what I got to look forward to? I deal with the public as well and that would be EMBARRASING! What do you say when it happens, besides of course 'excuse me?'
EL Diva 1 Posted December 10, 2010 I also have noticed that my gag reflex is different. I used to have a very sensitive reflex and now it's not that bad. Has anyone else noticed this?
Tally23 0 Posted December 10, 2010 I usually appologize and say excuse me...lol.. there is really nothing else I can do besides sitting there and explaining my lap band to them..which really wouldnt be professional... I had a really sensitive gag reflex... I really have not tried it out lately so I do not know if it is better or worse. There are days when I have the feeling like I need to burp and nothing comes out. It is more like a painful hiccup. I guess the band stops things from coming back? I think some days my band is not at tight and things so go as they please. Mornings and during stressful situations my band seems to get tight. Any other time during the day its loose. DebH 1 Posted December 11, 2010 My burping has definitely increased since being banded. Some days I don't burp at all and other days I sound like a drunken sailor. I have not been able yet to determine if there is a pattern to what makes some days worse. I just say excuse me and try not to draw anymore attention to myself than necessary. Also many times at the end of a meal, I can tell when I am getting full because I have 2-3 painful hiccups. I stop eating and that stops them. It is sort of a good signal so I could tolerate it if it lasts.

Eventually I started to burp... and it felt sooo much better!! It will happen.... just wait! Ha ha:)
