Have you ever got hit around the port?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have had the band for awhile have you ever got hit on the port with baseball for example. I am only 5 weeks out from surgery and seem to think that you would feel the port forever especiallly when you lose more weight. I am concerned that later on you would get hit while doing physical activity and it will hurt really bad.

I have never thought of that but I sometimes feel my port when I bend over to tie my shoes and it hurts so I can imagine that it would be very painful to get hit in the port...

Never been hit with a baseball but my son's kicked it pretty good a couple of times. Now it's healed, it hurts no more than, say, stubbing your toe. Not even that much.

My port isn't a low profile port. It's just under the skin and now I've lost the weight, it sticks out a lot. Even then, I reckon if it got hit, it wouldn't hurt an undue amount.

I, also, have never been hit. But, I have placed a heavy box, where I normally would have carried it before lap-band, and had to quickly move it off the port and carry it properly using my arms, instead. So, I guess, the answer would be to be careful, but not overly indulgent of the port site, in the future. Karen (kll724)

I've been hit in the port with my son's head (head butting is 'funny', it seems, among the four year old set) and it indeed hurt a ton.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
