What does restriction feel like???

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Ok, this may seem like a dumb question to you. But it's really puzzling me!

I had my 1st fill a month ago, 4cc in a 14cc band......I felt nothing. Just the same as I always did no restriction what so ever!

Then 6 days ago I had my 2nd fill, I now have 6cc in my band. I'm pretty sure at this point that I'm not restricted, but to be honest I'm really not sure?

I dont no if it's my bad eating habits thats telling me to keep eating once I feel relatively full or whether I'm not at restriction yet?

I've never vomitted (yet!) after eating more than I feel I should, but a few times I've felt like something is stuck!

This feels really painful like a brick in my chest and happens mostly after I've eaten white bread or white rice or just not chewed my food enough.

is this what something getting stuck feels like? Or restriction possibly??

How many cc's did you have put in your band until you felt restricted? and does the pain in the chest only happen if something is stuck??

Thanks :blink::unsure:

yes, that painful feeling in your chest is food being stuck... so no more white bread or rice! lol

it's hard to describe the feeling of restriction. i've learned to really "listen" to my body so i can just feel when i've eaten too much... that if i eat one more bite i'll throw up. (which i learned by trial and error!)

don't go by how many cc's are in your band... everyone is different. i have a 10cc band and only have 4.4cc's in and just can't handle anything more.

does your doctor do fills under floroscopy? if you have the chance... do that. yeah, you have to swallow some yucky barium but the doctor can control your restriction by what he sees on the screen!

Restriction varies with the individual. Some people are looking for actual physical restriction so that the band controls the volume they can eat at one sitting. Some people get that. Most don't without constant 'stuck' episodes.

What you should be looking for is your hunger to go away after you eat and not be hungry for about 4 hours after a meal. The band works by putting pressure on the vagus nerves which keep the stomach from producing ghrelin, the hunger hormone.

For some people (a rare few), the band alone does this. For most of us, we need fills. Some just a little and others will almost max out their band.

I had my first fill done under X ray but all the rest are done by the nurse in clinic now. My surgery included 2 years after care so I dont have to pay extra for my fills now but I just didnt realise it could take this long to get it right!

The nurse thinks the next fill should do it and I really hope she's right!

I've stopped the white bread n rice now n haven't got anything stuck for the passed couple of days, but am definatley not restricted either!

This is soooo frustrating!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
