Why did you all choose the LapBand ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was just a bit curious as to why you all chose the , LapBand. I do not have insurance, and have chosen to have my surgery done in, Mexico. The cost is half of what it is in the states. Up to now, I have been against doing anything that is permanent , because I plan on having children in the future. I noticed they now offer a gastric sleeve, but at the same time, I've read more con's than pro's. Can I get some of your feedback in reference to why you , ultimately chose the LapBand?

Thank you in advance!

Hi!

I, too, am hoping to have children in the future and that was one of the big reasons I choose the lapband. I also looked into the 'sleeve' but was swayed to the lapband knowing that the band could be 'unfilled' during pregnancy so you could get proper nutrients then refilled after. In a sense, the lapband is reversible whereas other WLS's aren't.

I guess it comes down to personal choices, and I'm really happy with mine!

Good luck and do what's right for you :)

If you are planning to go to Mexico for your band, make sure you have a Doctor back at home that can take care of your follow up care.

Getting regular fills is an essential part of having the band.

I had my surgery in Mexico and would be happy to talk with you about my experience. Please message me if you have any questions that I can help with.

I chose the band because I had less than 100 pounds to lose and liked that it was not as major a surgery and can be reversed.

I choose the band because I only had a little over 100lbs to lose and didn't feel I needed something as drastic as the sleeve or bypass. I also thought if there were complications I could have it removed if needed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
