How long before....

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how long before everything I do revolves around my band? I am new to all this, only banded in October. So, everything that I am doing, I am thinking about my band. Not in a bad way.....

Does it ever become less of a conscious thought?? This may not be making sense......

"Does it ever become less of a conscious thought??"

My response to that would be yes and no. Yes, it becomes less of a conscious thought in that I don't think about the fact that I have a band every minute of the day. I don't feel for my port the way I did in the early days. And no, I still consider what I am going to eat everyday. I make sure I get enough Protein to have energy to get through the day. I also think about what I am going to eat (when I don't bring my lunch), making sure that I am getting the proper nutrition as oppose to eating something that "tastes good" but has little to no nutritional value (i.e. ice cream, Cookies, cakes, mashed potatoes w/butter, french fries, fried chicken, etc.). I try to get the most bang for my buck so to speak. I guess you could say that I now eat to live -- no longer living to eat. I am not obsessive about it, I am just prepared (95% of the time).

It's been a process and has taken time for me to get into the swing of things. Some people are on board right away, others, like myself are slower on the uptake. Either way, if you can get there that's all that matters. I am losing weight slowly but consistently. I'm good with that.

All the best to you on your journey.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
