Thats awesome you lost so much on your own. Are you happy eating what you are eating? I had to do a 2 week pre op diet and i did it without cheating once . I lost 15 lbs bu ti know that i lost the 15 lbs because i had to do the diet to get the lapband. Craz,y but i couldn't do it forever on my own. Been there tried that. Only you can truely answer the question can you eat this way forever. Lapband isn't a cure but a cructh to help .. Either way congrats and good luck !

P.s check with your insurance. I think my moms said she has up to a year to have the surgery after her 6 month monitored diet.

You've done well.

I also had to go through a 6 month physician supervised diet. I lost 30 lbs. during mine. After a life time of weight loss/ re-gaining, I was surprised in the super obese condition I'm in now at age 63, that I had any degree of self will power left. I've heard that most insurance companies are looking for at least a 5 % weight loss to qualify the patient for bariatric surgery. It appears you will be on track as far as that goes.

I am choosing to go forward with surgery because of my lifetime history of regaining past losses. I'm only 15 months away from being on Medicare coverage and it doesn't cover bariatric surgeries now. It will be very unlikely to cover such surgeries after the current reforms get modified, reversed, whatever.

I'm having surgery on Dec. 13th. I'm in the middle of the 2 week pre-op diet now - all Clear liquids, SF Jello, Protein Meal Replacement shakes made with low fat milk, SF puddings and yogurt type stuff. Not as bad as expected. No headaches, hunger. Just wishing I had something to chew.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

For me, I knew that I could lose weight on my own. I just couldn't KEEP it off. I lost 110 pounds through diet and exercise, and before I had surgery, 60 pounds of it was back on.

If you've never dieted before, then perhaps you should stick with the dietary changes and see how that goes. But if you've been dieting and regaining over and over again for your whole life like I have, you know that it doesn't work for you. But changing the diet does work for some people, and if you think it might for you, then go for it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
