liquids - potato Soup

Mushies - mashed potatoes

Where do baked potatoes fit in here? I went out for dinner last night - again, nothing healthy for the bandster on the menu! I ordered a plain baked potato with butter on the side. Mushed it up about mashed tater consistency, then mmmm mmmm mmm the best thing I've had since surgery!!! Why aren't baked potatoes on the list? They have to be better for you than mashed (no mountain of butter and milk) or soup (all the fat cream used in soups!)

Have I totally screwed up my diet? I have finally begun the downwards movement on the scale (almost 2 weeks at same weight, was down 2 pounds this morning!!!) I have a Protein Shake in the AM, cottage cheese and either sf pudding or cream of chicken soup for lunch, and then something mushy for dinner (potato soup, blended chicken and veggies in broth, egg drop soup, etc.) I am usually hungry later, so I might have a glass of milk or sf Jello. I feel good, no stomach pains, no potty issues, etc.

Please keep in mind that my doctor left NO instructions for me except, "the band is just a tool, it's up to you to use it!" So I am depending on y'all to keep me in line!

Guess I need to come clean, though - a friend gave the family some ghiradelli chocolates for Christmas and you know what happened! After thanking her, I ripped her a new one for the temptations she laid upon me!! hehe

Thanks Guys!

baked potato = mushy

chocolate = satan

:)

My understanding of mushies is very broad. I was told that anything you want to put in a blender with some liquid can be eaten as a mushy. I think a well smushed baked potato qualifies. Just make sure you're getting in your Protein every day (at least 60 grams). If you're not eating refried Beans, I highly recommend them with some salsa and melted cheese. That was my main staple during mushies.

60 lbs in 5 mths??? I'm following YOUR diet!!!!!! You go girl!

I can't stand the texture of refried Beans - bleck - but I like chili, so maybe I should put on a pot of chili with extra Beans (are all beans the same in Protein?) and ground sirloin or turkey. If I blend it, that would fit in the mushy stage (and fill up my tummy!!)

Woo Hoo, you have opened up a new world for me!!

Oh by the way, anyone who crosses me with chocolate is truly in for it!!!! It honestly takes all of the power of Heaven to keep me from inhaling every morsel of chocolate I see!!!

thanks anwyn!

Hi Cheri! Chili is a good idea, but my stomach was too sensitive for spicy food during mushies. Make sure it's watery when you puree it and go really slow when you eat. I think Beans are probably all high in Protein and Fiber but don't quote me on that.

I'm not going to lecture you on chocolate - I inhaled some Godiva from my Christmas stocking just a few hours ago, so it'd be kinda hypocritical. Just go easy on your tummy and you'll do fine.

Congrats on meeting your mini-goal! :)

I did a small chili from wendy's with some sour cream in a blender and it was enough for 2 or 3 meals in the beginning. It is loaded with Protein and Fiber. I also did spagetti sauce in the blender, and my favorite was guacamole. ~Mandy

Dear Cheri

I small potato or a 1/3 cup of mashed potato is one carb portion so that means you can have it but count it as a carb not a vege!! And lose the butter!! If you have to make it mushy use a splash of low fat milk, or I like hommus in mine. Or add to it some Beans, chick peas, lentils, herbs (like parsley or fresh coriander) to make it interesting. A bit of olive oil would even be better than the butter.

The other think i do and I am not sure if they have this in the US is shepherd's pie, so you make up some savory beef mince with diced onion, capsicum, garlic, cumin, chopped tomatoes, a bit of red wine (like an italian style sauce) and then put it in a dish and then mash the potato up and spread it over the top, sprinkle a little cheese and paprika over the top and bake until the cheese melts and it's great. Last forever, the whole family will like it, You only need a little and it goes down well as a meal in itself regardless of what stage you are at, or add a salad to it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
