gotmyeyeontheprize 2 Posted December 6, 2010 As we venture into the holiday season, we are going to be faced with parties and temptations. Even so, if we plan ahead, we might handle things better. My family has a holiday get together planned that will involve finger foods. I am trying to make sure I bring something low fat and full of Protein so that I have something to eat as well. I am thinking about making turkey meatballs. Has anyone ever made or tried these? If so, do you have a good recipe? Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for finger foods? btrieger 21 Posted December 6, 2010 Turkey meatballs are simple. Use 98% fat free turkey, egg whites instead of whole eggs and oat meal instead of bread crumbs. Devilled eggs work too. Just throw out the yolks and substitute with fat free cream cheese.
Tami_819 17 Posted December 6, 2010 Devilled eggs work too. Just throw out the yolks and substitute with fat free cream cheese. I've never heard of that one. I'm going to have to try that. You just swap out the cream cheese for the yolk in the proper amount to fill them? Add the normal ingredients to it too? Thanks

Add the normal ingredients to it too? Thanks You'll find a lot of recipes that will say to use yogurt instead of the yolks but it isn't thick enough for me. I used fat free cream cheese, dijon mustard and smoked paprika to fill them. Only done it once that way but they were delicious.
honk 780 Posted December 6, 2010 Hummus and baby carrots, grapes, cut up veggies, mini quiche made with egg whites, chicken breast strips on a stick.
MustangKitten 0 Posted December 6, 2010 I saw a lot of really good recipes on bariatriceating.com's website. Anyone have any experience with any of these? I am only 1 week post-op so I am going to consult with my nutritionist about whether or not their good for me. They have a real good looking recipe for turkey meatballs or for caesar deviled eggs. Both sound delicious so I am thinking that they aren't that good for me. I know healthy food can be good, just some of the ingredients sound not good for me. Just wondering. honk 780 Posted December 7, 2010 I looked at the bariactriceating site and I think the question is will you have one or two deviled egg halfs or plan on it being your dinner. At 10 g fat for two that seem high to me esp if you are going to eat them for a meal. The Stroganoff Turkey meatballs seem okay though I would probably make them with reduced fat sour cream. ape087 1 Posted December 7, 2010 we have a great recipe that my family makes for get togethers and its pretty healthy. We take a piece of turkey lunch meat (thin sliced, like budding brand, that gives nyou 90 cals per back, has a lot of protien, and low fat). then we smear it with fat free or low fat cream cheese. Then we put a pickle spear in the middle of it, and roll it up. Pretty tasty, low cal and low in fat!
