December 2010 Bandsters out there?

Thanks everyone!. I know what I have to do and that the band is a tool. I don't eat like I did before but I should be feeling satisfied with a cup of food or around that. That's not anything close to the amount I eat to feel satisfied now. (not FULL as in ew can't eat another bite) I don't want to feel like that. But I did have the surgery for a reason to help and it's not helping yet is my point. So hopefully this fill will help! Just would have expected the weight to be coming off faster than it is. Thanks everyone for your support!

Having been at each end of the band spectrum from too tight to too loose I can say for ME, when I am at my sweet spot I can eat small amounts of most foods, enjoy them and am easily satisfied. My cravings are basically gone when I am at my sweet spot. I don't exactly feel "full", just that I am done eating and am satisfied.

I had a 2.5cc fill today to bring me back to 5.75cc in my 10cc band. I am gonna be super cautious these next few days. I am hungry and my stomach is growling away but I think I've had enough for the day. With my previous fills, I often feel more restriction a couple weeks after the fill rather than right away. Does anyone else here feel their fills that way too?

I think everyone is doing well. :) I am sure most of us (me included) could/should fit more exercise in. :o I am pleased to read that those who are at 30# down, like me, are continuiing with our follow ups and fills. I think a big mistake some people make is giving up and not getting their monthly fills/checks. As my doctor says, some people have a very narrow therapeutic window where they are adequately nourished, not getting stuck and losing weight, a fraction of a cc above or below is not their green zone and they are either too tight or too loose.

They took my 6 month digital photo and we compared it to my photo from 6 months ago, OMG, 30# has made a big difference,and I am proud. :)

Quick question and a couple of NSVs...

First the question, last week I lost a whopping .6 lbs and I have noticed that every time I enter a new "decade" in my weight loss (most recently from the 240s into the 230s) my weight loss slows way down and bounces back and forth a couple of pounds before I start losing again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Now for the NSVs...I went shopping this weekend and everything I bought was a regular size rather than a plus size! Don't get me wrong, my pants are still an 18W or 20W depending on the fit so I'm not completely out of the plus sizes but when my DH and I go out to dinner tonight for our anniversary I will be wearing a size L skirt and an XL top...so exciting!! I also bought 3 pairs of shoes (I really needed them ;) ) and not only has my shoe size gone down from a 9 to an 8 but I also bought some shoes that aren't flats - in the past my knees hurt so bad that I would never wear heels! And the last one...my DH and I spent part of Saturday touring a large plantation in our area (before the shopping). It was in the upper 90s temperature-wise but I was able to do all of that walking in addition to a lot of walking at the mall without sitting down and without pain!

All of these NSVs reinforce why this is the best thing I have ever done for myself!!!

WOW Vicky! What great NSV's! I also love the increased stamina that i have and my knee and foot pains are gone!

I think what you are describing weight loss wise makes sense. Your body must need to adjust for each decade lost. I know it is common to have weight loss stall out at weights we weighed for a long time in the past, a set point I think it's called.

That makes sense about the set point...the weight I am now is a weight I was at for about 5 or 6 years. I'll be patient with it and try to bump up my exercise to get things moving again...

Congratulations, Jess, and everyone. You are all doing great!

The idea of a weight loss plateau is normal, as is the little stall when you enter a new range of weight loss (I like the term "decade" you used.) The way to think about weight loss is that it is not a steady, smooth downward-sloping ramp. (Imagine a triangle with a sloping side.) No matter how perfect you are, weight loss is never that even and uninterrupted. Your metabolism needs time to adjust, and may cycle up or down a pound or two, before starting down into the next loss phase. A better image to keep in mind is the side of a staircase. You're on a horizontal line for a bit, then drop down to the next step. You continue on that step for a bit, then drop down to the next step. And so forth. The period of time you may be on those horizontal steps will vary, and may feel like a plateau. But if you stick to your routine, when your metabolism adjusts, you'll drop weight and be on that next step.

I mentioned this in another thread: I was recently at the same weight for 16 days, but then I dropped six pounds in a week. I weigh myself every morning, just because I need to know how to deal with my day, and I was a pound lower each morning. Felt great, let me tell you!

So, don't think "ramp," think "staircase." :)

Thanks everyone! It feels so great! Getting the band was the best thing I've ever done. And these past 6 months are the happiest I've been in a long long time. I'm so proud of all the December bandsters, we're all doing great!

This is exactly where I am!!!

The whole bouncing around in those10 lb ranges is so frustrating. I don't know if it is so noticable because the '10's' are easy to frame goals around, or what.

I can still wear my size 18 pants (and still wear 20 dress pants to work, because I don't want to buy any other sizes yet). I just roll the waist bands a couple of times and hike them up every once in a while. I have bought a few L regular womens shirts and I am so happy - cheaper too!

Definitely a staircase! haha. Walking down very carefully.

I've been doing pretty good, finally down a few pounds, and a few I had gained-ish.. I was just in such a rut... I exercised 6 days last week, and plan to this week. Man, it's hard to stay focused. I'm having a LOT of family that is really sick right now, with numerous family members.. it's really hard not to eat out of stress and sadness. But, I'm trying to be good, and even if I'm not the exercise is helping me (also helps me cope and clear my head).

My victory of the week, is I'm the weight on my drivers license haha.laugh.gif

Also I ate the same thing that made me a little "stuck" a few weeks ago, and it did it again, not as bad this time, but I could feel it going down. LOL we never learn i guess! I'm thinking because it was hard beef and bread and thats what did it.

I'm between and 18 and a 16 in pants, I have some 16s but the are totally uncomfortable, and my 20's are almost falling off. Gotta lose a few more so my 16's fit good!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
