Hello everyone,

I have enjoyed reading your input and found it all both interesting and informative. I am at the point of visiting my own GP tomorrow and hope that he sees no reason why I can not proceed with the Slimband procedure. I really hope that this is the answer that I have been looking for.

I have dieted since I was 16 and am now 52. I have 3 grown children and 1 absolutely wonderful grandson :D .

To be perfectly honest, this procedure sounded too good to be true, but since I have read your postings, I can see that it isn't going to be a walk in the park! There is going to be a lot of work ahead. I have lost hundreds of pounds over the years and of course have put it all back on, and then some. My hope with procedure is that once I have reached my goal this time that Slimband is going to make it impossible to gain the weight back.

Your last sentence prompts me comment. Even with gastric bypass, people have put the weight back on, and the band is no different. The band is a tool. You must make it work for you but you can also sabatogue it. You will no longer be dieting, but you will be making healthy choices. For me, the band keeps me honest when I have my down periods. As my diets rarely lasted longer than 6 weeks (one or two for a year), then I would start eating poorly and the weight came back on. I have had the band for 3 1/2 years now and lost but over the summer, I gained five pounds back. The weight crept back up but not so quick that I couldnot turn around my habits. Love the band for that simple reason.

So I recommend the band and always will, put there is a caveat, it is not infallible. If you choose to make poor choices, the band can't help you. I wish you well in the start and end of your journey.

Hi Doddie,

I appreciate your responce and input. The more I read the better I understand that this is going to be a lot of work but well worth the while I believe. You are right, there will have to be a change in my eating habits but it is my hope that Slimband will indeed be the right tool for me. :) Thanks again.

Vicki

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
