NEWLY BANDED - NERVOUS NELLY

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone....i am newly banded and only 5 days post op- ...I have killer pain in my shoulder which i was told was normal and could last up to 2 weeks..its a stabbing pain, so i have to deal with it really. I take the codeine provided but only at night time....I have also been doing the walking but when i walk i feel a heaviness by the port, is this temporary or what? I feel like i have to hold up my side when walking. I have also been wearing a sports bra to help and it does just a little bit. Getting up from laying down and or sitting position, i feel achy in the mid section, i guess also from surgery. I just dont want to walk hunchback like forever, or is this also just from the surgery? I also feel like food doesn't taste right, lol...I am not sure if that has happened to anyone else. Maybe its just me. I am still very bloated from the surgery too. I also feel ugh, did i make the right decision or am i feeling these feelings because of how i am feeling? lol

Keep on going, you will be fine. the heavy feeling by / on the port site is normal and indicative of the swelling along with the bloating. Walking is the best way to get the bloating down, you may want to try some gas-X or similar product to assist with dealing with any internal gas caused from the protien drinks. The carbon dioxide from surgery will go as you walk. The port site is usually the last bit of soreness that goes away and will slowly get better and better with time. Good Luck!:D

I have been on mushies from the day i got home from hospital per the dr. I guess as i have been reading, many drs have different rules huh? lol i am still having things like Jello, pudding, Protein Shakes, mashed potato (1st time yesterday), Soups like Tomato and chicken and split pea and butternut squash...i am still very bloated. The stabbing pain is horrible. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! It was there off and on like day 2 and then day 3 and ever since its getting worse. Thankfully Codeine helps. But i am only taking it at nite. I am walking to a degree and holding the port isn't so pretty when your walking outside. lol

@ THSISME - i am taking the GAS X but ur limited to 2 a day...so its kind a hard. But i am doing the walking, but again hard when i feel like i have to have my hand there the whole time. But that's ok. THIS TOO SHALL PASS, right? lol

The shoulder pain is horrible, so and taimes hinders me from even walking anywhere. It hurts to yawn and breathe.

It will pass. I am sorry to hear your pain is so bad just remember movement is good even if it is a little at a time and taken in short spurts of time. I started with just walking around the house and then making it down the street for 5 minutes or so and gradually built up. It is worth the time and trouble.

Hey fusion,

I was also banded on the 29th :) Actually it was the second surgery in a month cuz of a complication (not related to the banding) previously. That time I had HORRIBLE shoulder gas pain so I feel you, and yes it does get better just keep moving! This time around praise God I didn't have as much gas pain, just some in my belly and on my left side. I have the same symptoms as you in the port area with the "heaviness". It almost feels like a bad cramp or stitch in my side. I can tell there is still swelling over there too but mine has come down quite a bit in the past couple of days.

I trust this all will pass :P and I appreciate your thread, for peeps responses helped me out a LOT. I am not concerned as much about the food as I am about my abdomen feeling better!

Take care and send me a message if you want to stay in touch!

Susan

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
