10 days later...can eat solids...wtf??

Recommended Posts

Hello...was banded on 11/24...feel great and have gone back to work. Yesterday, while blending some chicken, I cheated and took a bite before blending. Today I just ate some grilled chicken and apples without blending. I feel like this is not supposed to happen. I expected to get sick but to my surprise...NOTHING!...

Has anyone had similar experiences?

I did'nt eat solids before what was on my doctors plan; but I probably could have. Remember Can does not equal should. I was still on full liquids 9 days out. I idd not move to mushies until day 15.

What you can do and what you should do are not always the same thing. I think I likely could have as well, but I did what the doc recommended and didn't. From what I have seen, the people who see if they can beat the band do not end up losing weight until after a couple of fills. If that is OK with you, that is your choice and there is nothing wrong with it, but if you want results now, start listening to your doctor's recommendations now knowing in a month or two, it will get much easier to restrict your calories.

Oh, and you are eating like normal because your swelling is gone and your band is empty. Some people can, others can't. Just as you would not wonder what is wrong with your clock when the power is out, your band is "plugged in" but there is no power in the outlet yet. Right now it is sort of just hanging out around your stomach until the fill tightens it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
