Swan56 6 Posted December 3, 2010 Ok I am completely new to this process, have many questions: I would like to first ask how long did it take between your initial consultation and surgery date so I have some idea when to work it into my work schedule???? Hey Cristina - and welcome! The process depends A LOT on your insurance. Do you know if it covers WLS? If so, you need to find out the requirements they have to approve it. For example, my insurance company required me to have 5 years of weight records from my pcp, lose 10% of body weight (from my heaviest), psych eval, a BMI of over 40 or 35-40 with comorobitites. Some insurce companies require a 6-month doctor supervised weight loss, some a 90-day. It all depends... and most is based on your insurance.

It so depends on your Dr/Insurance company, it has been exactly 6 months I had to see my pcp 6 times in 6 months for weight checks I had to lose 10% of my weight during that time, see a pulminologist, cardiologist, stress test, psychologist and now finally surgery on Monday Dec 6. Good luck!!!
Humming Bird 275 Posted December 3, 2010 It was 3 weeks from consult to surgery for me. but I was self-pay. There is the big difference with insurance vs. self pay. I had zero hoops to jump through. Nothing was required pre-op except for 2 weeks of Atkins diet.
