chopsticks

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm going to start trying to eat with chopsticks in order to eat slower and take smaller bites. I can only eat about 1/4 cup at a time, so its hard to get all my Protein unless I eat very slowly.

Anyone else have ideas for eating slower?

I use little tiny spoons and forks.

I think chopsticks might actually make it harder. Asian people I know that eat with chopsticks cut their meat etc into larger pieces so it's easier to pick up.

My chopstick grip isn't strong enough to pick up large bites. I only pick up small bites, and the time/skill required to "catch" the small bite makes me eat slower.

what a great idea! Chopsticks!

Someone else I know uses small flatware as well!

I order some small bowls today to use and I am going to us salad plates so I don't over fill my plates.

I also use a coffee type cup. Invision a starbucks reusable mug. It helps me to take sips instead of gulping my drinks down!

I am a week pre-surgery. I think I am going to get a few more cups...one for broth, one for Water, and one for coffee and tea...basically so they don't retain flavor of different things. Good luck!

I use small forks, and spoons at home. When I go out most restaurants only have spoons and chopsticks but I rarely use my spoon. Eating with chopsticks def makes me eat slower. Sometimes the staff will bring me a fork so I must explain that I am a slow eater.

Chopsticks make pulling off eating normal easier. Yes you can take bigger bites of stuff with chopsticks but you can also use chopsticks to take smaller bites if you want.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
