Two months until my first fill post-op? Strange or normal? Strange I think

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm 3 weeks post op. I've no restriction which scares me coz if I'm let loose I cud do damage and put on the weight I've lost so far (around 14lbs). I've been told by my co-ordinator that my first fill won't be till after Xmas. By then I'll be able to chow done oodles of food and that terrifies me. They claim they tend not to fill before Xmas to allow for possible Xmas related indulgences. Is or has anyone else experienced this? I'm considering requesting one seeing as I've paid for fills? Some feedback on this wud be great, thanks

Eight weeks is not too uncommon I don't think from what I have read. It doesn't hurt to request it and see what happens. food related gatherings are something that is going to be a challeng no matter what (at least for me) temptation is high and it's easy to rationalize it. BE STRONG! YOU can do it!

Good news, I got a call today from my co-ordinator and my fill is 4th January, I'm so excited! I'm gonna be like fill it as much as is possible!! I will need to make up for the Xmas period big time! On the other hand I'm back to the gym on Monday so that shud surely help with keeping things under control for now. Thanks for your encouraging words tho, every bit of positive feedback helps no doubt :-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
