Band-less 4 yrs; ready to re-band?

I was banded in 2003 and lost about 60 pounds. It slipped once; revised in 04. Slipped again and had it removed in 06. Think slips were from over-fills and testing the band limits too often. Quickly gained 20 pounds after removal. After three surgeries, I sure didn't want to have it end with me at original weight! I exercised, ate a healthy diet and lost 30 pounds. In the past two years, I've slowly re-gained 20 pounds. My doctors say it's aging/menopause and I have to cut back MORE and exercise more. It's sooo frustrating.

SO: I contacted my surgeon to explore possibility of re-band. I'm scared I will have same experience, but hopeful the product, procedure and information have improved since original banding seven years ago. I'm worried about scar tissue; I also had Tummy Tuck to remove excess skin and am not sure how that will impact. Anyone know?

My insurance won't cover so this is a big decision, assuming surgeon says it's viable.

Feedback from re-banded and tummy tucks re-banded greatly appreciated!

Hi:

My band slipped sometime during the past spring and I had it replaced with a newer model. My original banding was in July 2007. I had a tummy tuck in May 2009. My band surgeon didn't seem at all concerned with my tummy tuck and the second band surgery went well. I did tell him not to touch my belly button because I love my cute little belly button that my plastic surgeon created for me with my tummy tuck. I think he laughed at me when I requested that he not touch it - said yes, I had a nice belly button. You will have a few more scars added to your tummy with getting a new band. I didn't have to replace my port, so my new incisions were just small. You may need to have more incisions than I did if you're having your port replaced too.

Good luck.

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
