Yes, it is because you are not filled. Until you are properly filled, you will have little to no restriction. Also, remember that it takes 2,3,4 fills for most of us to get to our "sweet spot." Don't get worried or down if your first fill doesn't do the trick. That is normal. Just remember that it WILL happen

You have two choices. 1) Muster up the will power to start losing now knowing it will be much easier to maintain your success once you are properly filled. 2) Wait it out and know that there will be a time you will be filled correctly and don't beat yourself up if you don't lose weight in the process.

Best of luck however you decide to tackel it.

You have no restriction right now and the swelling from your surgery has gone down.. thats normal. I felt exactly like i did pre-op at about week 3 and just had my first fill today. I lost 18 lbs almost instantly and then only 4 lbs in the past 3 weeks, I was upseet about that, but I also ate because I was hungry. My doctor said its normal until you get your fill.

Yes. The band puts pressure on the vagus nerves which in turn shut off the ghrelin (hormone that makes us hungry). Some people (a rare few) get enough pressure just from the band. The rest of us need fills...some a little...some a lot.

Hi Elfie

I think I read somewhere that this effect lasts about a year...do you know if this is right? I am 7 weeks out and get my first fill tomorrow. I am not really hungry but am fighting head hunger. I could probably manage without a fill but maybe need the physical restriction.

I am like you, Katie. I have no real physical hunger but have to battle head hunger daily. I a feeling very satisfied on 3 small meals and 2 even smaller Snacks, about 900-1000 caps a day. I am still a month away from first fill. I need to worry more about establishing an exercise routine. I do hope this state of diminished hunger and cravings lasts. My dr says sometimes it does for awhile. He said he has patients go several months before needing a fill.

Hi Calico

I am eating about the same....3 small meals and 2 Snacks. If I stick to this I can lose weight steadily.

I thought it was just me. I eat my 4 oz. and I'll still hungry. Can't wait for the fill and I'm really, really working on staying at 4 oz.

Randee - You're just eating 4oz? I guess you did just get banded recently, so I guess you'll work up to a little more. I eat 2/3 cup to 1 cup each meal. Somethings I've come to find make me more satisfied with a smaller amount. Like, cottage cheese. Good luck to you.

I can't say i am hungry because I'm really not but the mental is saying I am.... My down fall was sweets and still are. I am post 2 weeks today and I do not feel I am advancing. I get my fill on 12/14/10 but I am not sure it will matter much because it hurts for me to eat food now. How far apart do you have to wait bwtween fills?

Hi I had my first fill this morning(7 weeks post op). I wasn't really hungry before but struggled a bit with head hunger. I don't really feel any restriction but I am physically unable to eat the same quantity as before. I was full at about 2oz. This might wear off as the fill settles. I am booked in Dec 31st for my second fill....what a great start to the new year!!!!!!! It's like a new beginning.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
