Protein Drinks/Shakes Recommendation??

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a Protein shake/drink that doesn't smell like a bottle of Vitamins? I just can't get past the smell...totally puts me off. Has anyone tried something they like or at least can tolerate well?

Thanks!

Emily

GNC French vanilla ON GOLD STANDARD (<--brand name) blended with strawberries and ice is AWESOME. I am so picky about what i eat (hard to imagine i know) and I couldn't even do a cup of Isopure or anything else but I LOVE my shakes in the morning. IMO it beats Chick-fila breakfast which was what I was used to.

I just bought a 60 dollar container of Isopure (Mango peach) it tastes alright but because I paid so much for it I will make myself like it. The sales man said it is the one of the highest quality Protein Drink on the market and it has no sugar and no carbs.

Thanks, everyone! I just bought the chocolate and unflavored unjury but will look for those you've mentioned, too. I have next Friday off to get all my pre-op testing done so plan to spend the afternoon checking all this stuff out.

I use Isopure - its clear and taste fine and it's 100% pure isolate protien (absorbed better than whey protein) and has 50 grams Protein per sertving. It's 50 bucks for a huge can at GNC. It last longer for me b/c I use only one scoop at a time, not two.

I just found and absolutely love a GNC product....Pro Performance Liquid Protein. I got a 16 ounce bottle for 14.99 on sale, and it has 18g of Protein per serving. Its pretty thick like a cough Syrup, but I throw mine in some berry Flavored Propel and it dilutes it and makes it easier to swallow. I am sooo sick of Protein Shakes. I need to take in more Water anyways, so this is the perfect item for me!! I mentioned it in this link too http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=7996&highlight=liquid+protein There are other people on the board who have tried it...and they have some suggestions for its use, like to be put in ice tea...... GOOD LUCK!!

Amplify by Release, you can only but it at a select few GNC'S (Chocolate mixed with some peanut-butter) It tastes like a Reeses Cup!!! I hate shakes and I love this one. I tried the Isopure (YUCK YUCK YUCK, I'd rather drink mud with worms in it) Anyhow try it, it's the best.

Thanks for all the responses...I'm anxious to get some different products to try. Although I draw the line at mud with worms in it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
