Banded on September 1, 2010

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm new to this site and have probably the same questions as others. I was banded on September 1 and lost 18lbs in the first two weeks! OMG--I was soooo Excited! Then, I lost about two or three more up to my first fill which wa the end of October. I must mention how excited I was to lose more weight and then, sssccchhhrreeecchhh....no more weight loss. Well, I began to reflect what I was doing wrong, and I must admit, I was slowly moving back to my old eating habits but just not eating as much. Then, I tried exercising more, and still no loss. I went back to high Protein (tuna, scrambled eggs, low fat turkey and chicken sausages) and it appeared that I lost four lbs---and then they're back again! I'm getting my second fill tomorrow and my question is--are most banders losing weight after the second and third fills? Honestly, I really don't want to fail at this! Thank you so much for the time!

I want to be healthy!

Hi,

My surgery was on 9/16. I can really relate to what your saying. I had lost 30 lbs by my 1st fill but have plateaued now, it's very frustrating. I too have pretty much gone back to my old eating habits (just not as much) although, there have been several times that I have overeaten because I have found that I'm an emotional eater...not good! I do believe in the Lap Band process, just having a little trouble hanging in there and doing what I am supposed to do. I am due for a fill on 12/22. Hope that things are better after that. Please continue to keep us updated on how your doing. It helps me alot to hear that someone else out there is experiencing the same roadblocks and old habits that I am.

I understand totally! I have been banded since Jan of this year. I have only lost 40lbs but it has taken many fills for me to get to this point. They were only giving me tiny amounts at each fill so it was really frustrating for me to see my weight at a stand still. It does get better and it is very hard to break old habits. I find myself doing bad eating habits every once in a while but it is always a learning process for me. I had my last fill this past Thursday and it was a big one. And boy can I tell the difference!

Keep your head up and don't give in to the old habits! You'll do great! 

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
