Has my band slipped? Really Worried?

Recommended Posts

I am concerned that my band may have slipped. Starting a few days before Thanksgiving I have been struggling to eat. I have been able to eat chicken, ground turkey, sandwich meat, and could do some noodles. Now I am having trouble with meats and all Pasta. eggs have also become a problem which never has been since being banded in May. My last fill Oct. 15 and unfill a touch 27th. I am as full as I can be and have been doing well. I am wondering if this could be related to my time of the month or if it is an indication of something much worse that I should be worried about? Any advice or info about slipped band symptoms would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help with what it feels like but maybe try a day of liquids and a day of mushies...just in case it's swelling from something you ate or PB'd.

My band slipped and I had to have it removed. When it slipped I was throwing up CONSTANTLY - could not keep anything down - I could not even swallow.

I would go to your doctor. When my band slipped, I was not able to eat anything I couldn't even drink fluids. Terrible Feeling! It also felt like I had heart burn. A very bad feeling. The minute the took out all the Fluid, I felt fine. Don't let it get worse, because it will feel worse. Go to your doctor asap!

The previous posts were correct. It is imperative that you see your Dr. right away. I've had my band for nearly three years and began having problems about six months ago. I had the band emptied and still had problems keeping solid Proteins down. I began throwing up on a Friday and couldn't keep anything down for an entire weekend. Went in for a barium swallow the following Monday and my band had slipped. Surgery on Tuesday.

It turns out that I also had a hiatal hernia that needed repair. Luckily, my Dr. was able to reposition the band and I'm currently a little over a week out and feeling much better. I was able to start soft food today and am grateful to still have my band.

Should you have a slip, the sooner you see your Dr. could make the difference in whether or not your slip can be repaired or not.

I hope everything works out for the best.

is it painful? Like could you say that you would KNOW if you band slipped?

Hi, I wonder what causes the band to slip. I am 10 weeks post op and for the past month I have been in pain. After tests they determined I had an infection right under my port, no slippage, thank goodness. But I could not bend over at all. I have been on 10 days of antibiotics and starting to feel better. I guess, if we feel something is not right, we should call the doctor right away. I waited a week to see if I got better, only to get worse. My friends talked me into calling the doctor right away instead of waiting for my regular appt. So glad that I did. I was able to bend over and put socks on today!! What an accomplishment. Is there something we can do to prevent the band from slipping? Is it working out too hard (I wish)!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
