  1. 1. Do you eat peanut butter?

I was just banded on 11/15/10 and I am going to start solid foods next week . I am having a Peanut Butter dilemma. It's soft and mushy, but sticky and can't really be chewed up. I'm just wondering if any of you eat PB and if you have had problems with it getting stuck? I love PB but I'm afraid to try it.

No problems with it getting stuck. This is a huge dilemma for me because I love Peanut Butter. A LOT. Peanut butter is however very high in fat and calories and relatively low in Protein. I discovered Peter pan honey roasted chunky very naughty. See I like to eat it as a treat/dessert. I think it is better to have Toffee crunch peanuts instead because the crunchy exterior cuts down on the amount of peanut you actually get per serving. I have tried almond butter but it is just not as good. There is a product PB2 which is defatted peanuts that are ground to a powder. I use it in Protein Shakes. All the protein with a fraction of the fat. If you can actually stick to 1 tablespoon at a time you are probably fine. My problem is I cant. It is also really good on baby carrots. I read on Eat this Not That, that the type of fat used in reduced fat versions is actually worse for you than the fats found in the regular versions.

I love Peanut Butter and I eat it. I just try to keep it in moderation (and if I don't, I just make sure I don't eat over my calories for the day). Although I didn't eat it plain until a few months post op. If I were to eat an entire spoonful at once or something it would get a little stuck (but would wash down faster than something like bread, for instance). Like the above poster mentioned, I REALLY like PB2. I don't really mix Protein Shakes anymore (I buy ready-to-drink) but when I was, I always mixed in peanut butter. Then I discovered PB2. Mixed into a Protein Shake it has the same taste as regular peanut but so low calorie/fat. Great for sauces too.

Peanut Butter is one of my mainstay Proteins. I eat it with crackers for a lunchtime meal. I, also, eat it to boost my vanilla, banana shakes. I, however, try to stick to 1 tablespoon serving. Best of luck, Karen(kll724).

I love Peanut Butter. Have you tried the Smuckers all natural? Only ingredients are peanuts and salt. It tastes fab! Says to keep in fridge but I never do. It gets to hard. I just eat it straight off the spoon. I like a spoonful for Snacks or even a dessert some nights.

LOVE Peanut Butter but I seldom eat it plain., I actually add a TBSP to my Protein Shake in the am. I use chocolate flavored light soy milk so with the peanut butter it's like a Reese's PB cup in a glass! Yummmm.

Since I have found Peanut Butter that you grind yourself at the store, I won't eat the stuff that comes prepackaged for you. That stuff is the best. I will eat a teaspoon full for a snack.< /p>

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm so glad to hear that most people do eat PB with no problems. I love it and miss it. I have never heard of powdered PB and will definitely check in to that. The idea of blending PB with Protein Shakes is a great idea! YUM!

Very few places actually sell it in person. I've only been able to order from Bell Plantation directly. That is probably your best bet.

If you go to the Bell Plantation website you can do a search by zip code for retailers that sell it. Good luck! It's great stuff!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
