When I first discovered these boards and decided that I was going to get banded, I developed a severe case of band envy. I was so impatient, but after visiting here for a while, I realized that it'll happen when it happens. I'd become a lot more patient.

Until you showed up. LOL. Now it's back.

I wanna be banded NOW NOW NOW

The doctors always say that getting banded won't change your life. But the truth is, if you work with the band and lose that weight, it DOES change your life - in most ways for the better. And we all know it. I'm looking forward to my turn to wear pretty clothes and high heels and be somebody other than the fat girl.

I really enjoyed reading your story. This probably sounds horrible, but I was kind of glad to read that you struggled at some times along the way. It makes this seem a lot more doable for the rest of us. :-)

Totally unrelated and random question: your hair is naturally curly, yes? Did you have it chemically straightened? Was it damaging? That's one of the things I want to try when my face gets less pudgy.

I have to agree, because I'm trying not to dwell on my lack of weight loss the last couple of months, it WILL happen when it happens.

Did you ever move to South Africa? I remember you were considering it. If so, do you know of a fill dr down there. I may be moving to Malawi and will have to dr in S. Africa since Malawi has no embassy approved drs.

Thanks for any info. Celeste

My hair is naturally messy - come people would call it naturally curly. I had "Japanese Hair Straightening" done (which is supposedly less damaging) and really enjoyed it. The only thing is if you have had any other chemical treatments done to your current hair it could make for a mess and cause major frizz problems and just all around not be good. It is damaging so if you have it done I reccomend you get it colored with a natural based color-enhancer that will coat the hair with some protective. That makes a HUGE difference. Basically you have to condition the heck out of it once you've had that done. But overall I was very delighted with it. My current longer hair is wavy because I had a bunch of wavy extensions put in since it's been awhile since I had it straightened and the new Hair growth is wavy.

The trip is still on but keeps getting put off month by month. If life would hurry up and slow down I could hurry up and GO!!! I don't know of any doctors in S.A. I'm afriad. Check on the web is what I would do. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
