HELP...

Recommended Posts

Okay, i'm pretty new to the sight but haven't had much luck in getting feedback or positive encouragement. I think I'm driving myself insane... All my paperwork was submitted to the insurance company on Nov. 22. Everyone else that I have talked to that was submitted around that time has gotten approvals. I realize it is just over a week but I'm super anxious. I have a tentative date (12/27) pending approval but i really need it done (out of pocket reasons) this year. I don't personally know anyone who has had the band. My family isn't overweight like me. Neither are my friends. While my family and the few friends that know are super supportive of my decision, I'd like some help from someone that knows. I find myself checking this site and my insurance company website a few times a day trying to find something that would help. Maybe I'm freaking out a bit... i've NEVER had surgery and other than being overweight, i'm pretty healthy. Someone help...

Hi. Personally I am a horrible waiter. I had read on here many people wait for a month or more before they hear back from insurance. I was kind of shocked when I got a call from my insurance telling me it was approved (2 weeks after first appointment) and I then got a letter shortly after. Based on the holiday last week I would say it could be 3 weeks from the time it was submitted before they make a decision. You could call the insurance at 2 weeks to see if they have any status.

I am like Honk. I hate to wait because I suffer from Anxiety. My worries completely take me out of everything. But if you have submitted your paperwork November 17 and you're still waiting it could mean something good. I was once told that they like it when you call and say "I have paperwork pending and was just curious of the status" that is what I did. It can't hurt. I will continue to keep you in prayer. If they were going to reject you, they probably would have done it 11/18. It's all going to turn out fine..keep in touch!!

Thanks Honk and Krasc! I think the wait is about the worst part of it all. I keep going over it in my mind and it's just stressful. But i really appreciate the encouragement! Thanks!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
