Imagine yourself thin

Recommended Posts

I've always heard that if you can imagine yourself thin, it's easier to achieve your goals. I know the whole "the mind is a powerful thing" but what if you can't imagine yourself thin? I've been heavy my whole life. My (then) stepmom started me on weight watchers at the age of 13 or 14. I can't remember being under 220 lbs since I hit puberty. Any suggestions? Some have said find a picture and put your head shot with it but I don't want to be unrealistic and end up disappointed...

Maybe instead of trying to imagine what you would look like, maybe you can focus on noticing the positive feelings associated with all of this change. Maybe imagining an increase in self-confidence, pride, self-worth and just enjoying life in general.

Thanks Elikis. I'm pretty excited about being over to bend over, cross my legs, etc etc. All the little things that the smaller people take for granted. I'm excited about being healthier. But as far as a the self-esteem part, I'm not depressed because of my weight. I think that despite it I actually have good self-esteem. I know what you're saying though. Maybe I should just be excited about shopping at a normal store at the mall instead of Lane Bryant. Oh that'll be fun!

I can't really imagine myself thin but I don't think it means that I won't be successful. I just try to focus on the small victories and the changes I can see today.

Yep, imagine how it will feel, not how it will look. I also have goals that are oriented toward fitness and things I will be able to do not just looking better.

Yeah, as others have said, I think it's more about how you'll feel when you're thin rather than how you'll look. I know that's what's pushing me to go through the process. There are so many little things that get me winded like climbing stairs or running for the bus, and I just consider the day when I'll be able to do those things without getting tired. That's what it's all about.

Of course, looking good is part of it too. ;)

Sorry guys - this came off all wrong. I realize that being healthier and feeling better is much more important than looking better. That is my goal - to be healthier and not be so winded doing the simple things. I've just heard people say that if you can see yourself thin it helps. I was just making an observation on the fact that I can't imagine myself thin because I haven't ever been that way. Thanks for the encouragment. Good luck on your goals as well.

Hopefully my journey starts on 12/27/10 - praying for insurance approval!:D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
