When are you having your first band fill?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on November 15th and am scheduled for my first band fill on December 9th. I was thinking I would not have my first fill until later, maybe January. I am not getting hungry between meals yet. I'm wondering if I should cancel the fill and wait a little longer. I don't want to wait "too long" and take the chance of gaining weight. When are you having your first fill?

I had surgery Nov. 22nd and I go back to the doctor today for my post-op appt. I am assuming he will set up my fill appointment. The day of surgery, he said my first fill would be around New Years. I think 6 weeks out is the norm.

I had surgery November 2, 2010 I was supposed to go for a refill on December 2, 2010 but due to a post op infection I most likely will have to wait a few more weeks.

I think it could depend on if your surgeon put any saline in at surgery - mine did and I didn't even know it. He put in almost 4cc and 9 weeks later added 1.5 to it. I go back in this Friday and hope for a little tweak!! I also need to remember to ask how big my band it - as if that means anything, really?!?!

I had my surgery on Oct 20th and I was supposed to get my first fill today....but my insurance company didn't approve the fill in time and now it'll be postponed for 2 weeks or so. Kind of sucks, I was hoping to get the ball rolling on fills to reach that sweet spot. On a bright note, my weight loss has been pretty consistent ever since my first appointment with my Dr. and I'm on pace to reach my End of Year goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
