Insurance Hoops are driving me crazy!

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am hoping to be banded early next year but am having trouble with a letter of recommendation. My primary doc wont write a letter or even discuss surgery with me...My last doc from another state is now a sheriff and not a doc anymore....and the one before that no longer has my records....uuuggghhh!!! I am terribly frustrated with this entire thing....I mean if my primary wasn't so against WLS in general I wouldn't be having this problem. At least I know I have to get a new primary doc but it just sucks because a new doc might have to "know me for a while" before they can write a letter recommending surgery...or at least stating that my obesity is the cause of or makes worse some of my other conditions. :( Frustrated. I guess there is no real question just bummed a bit ya know? If I forge ahead and get everything else done then I could be out the program fee of $1200 if it all falls apart and insurance doesn't approve. :(

I feel like your primary doc can be against it, but if it's what you want then they should write the letter. My docs aren't into WLS, but they are writing the letter for me. You can always transfer your records over to a new doc and at least they will proof from your records. Good luck!

Well, I went to see the nurse practitioner in my docs office yesterday for an ear infection and decided to just ask her about WLS and a letter...she is GOING TO HELP ME! I cried tears of releif to have a doc actually take me seriously with this. She wants me to come back next week for a long appointment so we can go through everything and then she will write the letter for me...turns out her daughter had Lap Band 3 yrs ago and has had great success. I thanked her profusely and can't wait to go back to see her next week. She wants me to bring a list of my goals and expectations so we can have a really good talk about everything....I love her...she is offically the only person I want to go for as my PCP. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
