Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum and site and I am so excited about joining! I am a divorced mother of 3 beautiful and rambunctious boys ages 10, 5, and 4. They are my reason for getting out of bed in the mornings, my reason for going to work everyday......my reason for living. Being an RN, I have taken care of a variety of patients, especially surgical. I have been interested in weight loss surgery for about 5 years. During my marriage, my weight spiralled out of control. At the time, I was in a stable relationship, we began having children and I got too comfortable with myself gaining 5 lbs here....10 lbs there...etc. Before I realized it I had gained 100 lbs since graduating from college! I tried quick fixes such as diet pills or starvation diets but of course they did not work. I would lose 50 lbs and gain it all back. Being as heavy as I was began keeping me from participating in activities with my boys. I also began staying at home alot because I didn't want them to be embarrassed about having an obese mother. So last year, I got serious about my health. My previous insurance denied me, but with a blessing from above, I got a new job, new insurance and I was approved! I was banded on Oct. 21st and so far I am down 15lbs and I am soooo excited! I just got clearance from my surgeon to start working out and I have begun to do so. With the exercise I expect to lose more by the time I go back for my next checkup! Reading others' stories and seeing their photos really motivate me! So wish me luck and good luck to all of you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
