5 year weight history

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm kinda new here. I'm going through the process of getting together artifacts for what I think I need to be approved by my insurance company (UHC epo plan). I had a psych eval last year but I think I has expired so I'll probably get another one done.. I have some weight history but I don't have 5 years worth, which he insurance requires. Has anyone ever been approved with a spotty weight history with UHC? How do I know if the bariatric center I'm consulting with is even on the list of UHC suggested bariatric surgeons? If you don't have you weight history what can be done to still get approved. How difficult is it to get approved with UHC. I'm a guy so I didn't always go to the doctor until now because I was never sick. I have a BMI over 40, family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, kidney problems ..... The list goes on. Do you think I'll be approved. Any responses will help me out. Thanks.

I have UHC, but I did have the weight history. I found they are pretty easy to get approved for. BUT not sure how they would bend on the 5yrs. I would talk to them regarding you not having the full 5yrs and see what they say. Also if you go to their site (www.myuhc.com) or just call them they will tell you if the surgeon you are looking at is in Network.

I have UHC Choice Plus PPO and a 5 year history is required. I do have a 5 year history but my BMI is not over 40 throughout the whole time. (It is for 2 of the years). It doesn't ever dip below 35, though. Do you have to have a BMI over 40 for the entire time?

I too have UHC and did not have the history and they approved me anyways without it. They are really smooth to deal with and I had my approval within two weeks. Good Luck on your journey ! :)

I have BCBS insurance and they required a 7 year history-I too was very sparce in seeing my regular doctor. The insurance company accepted and approved me with a history that I provided myself. I had tried WW, exercise programs, Atkins, etc. made up dates and amounts lost and regained. I actually have a copy of the blank form that I filled out if you would like a copy PM me and I will email an attachment for you. Best of luck. PS I was approved less than 1 week after all the paperwork was submitted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
