Banding Tomorrow 11/29/10

Recommended Posts

Well the time has come and i am being banded tomorrow. I have lots of worries and fears especially what to eat after. The doctor said mushies would be ok by Tuesday in the afternoon if all GOD WILLING goes well. So i have bought chobani yogurts, cottage cheese with the fruit in it, ricotta, i have my Pro-Stat 64 drink ready to be used, Jello, and sugar free pops, and everything i bought is mostly sugar free. but i feel like i am limited to that stuff oh and of course Soups...i guess you can have cream based but i haven't bought any creamed based. i will stay away from that for a while. but any other suggestions meal wise??? so nervous that i will just come home and have ice cream shakes Breakfast lunch and dinner.

Good luck on your banding tomorrow. Mine was done this past Monday 11/22. Some of the things that I have eaten are refried Beans with some shredded cheese, Ragu spaghetti sauce mixed with ricatto cheese, tuna mixed with ff mayo, and right now I am eating a can of chicken mixed with some Texas Pete Wing Sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing. Of course, I heated all of those with the exception of the tuna.

To be honest, you probably won't have much of an appetite for the first couple of days. I lived off of Protein drinks, ice chips, Water, and sugar free popsicles. Actually, my surgeon wanted me on liquids for the first five days.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that all goes well!

Good luck!!!!! You will do great!!!! I was banded Nov 15th, and had no appitete for the first 2 days. I was on liquids, but I did fine. To make sure I got enough protien, I was using sugar free carnation instant Breakfast, with 1 cup fat free milk, and then 1 scoop of Protein Powder, very filling and tasted really good as well. My dietition approved all of it so I was a go. I had a really hard time with chicken broth, so one day I actually made chicken ramen noodles, and completly strained the noodles and seasoning. It may be salty, but it was a nice change.

U will b fine.... U will come up with some creative way of eating. The 1st 6 week is the hardest. But i will say that I love my band. If you do right by your band you wont go wrong. Just remember to drink and eat slowing. Please chew chew and chew again. After the surgery you may not want anything to eat the 1st week. Please try to get up and walk to move the gas.

Good luck

Your shopping list is good. Not sure if you followed a pre-op diet, but if you did and if you have Protein shakes, that would be good to add to your menu as well.

I didn't get an appetite until 3 days after I was banded. Your first 2 days you'll just want to get rid of the gas, but I found that even having some broth or any food gets rid of the gas.

I'd load up on Sugar Free Jellos...i went through those the first 3-4 days.

Just stick with this limited menu for a week. Not sure when your doctor will have you move off of mushy and onto to more solids, but my doctor gave me a week of mushy and then solids after.

But if you were like me, you won't be thinking about food until the after the 3rd day after being banded.

God willing you will be here typing up a summary. I had surgery by myself out of state and it was a piece of cake compared to get my wisdom teeth pulled and 10 times easier than liposuction. While everyone is different you will probably be fine. Good luck and keep us posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
