Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

I cried in a fitting room today and not because something didn't fit...

Recommended Posts

Today I went shopping at the thrift store. My new favorite place to shop, because you can find some decent stuff there really cheap and I'm not going to spend a lot of money on clothes that just aren't going to fit for very long (as I lose weight). Anyhow, I looked around forever and finally took a few pairs of pants and a couple tops to try on. I thought it would be interesting to try on smaller sizes and see what they felt like. None of the smaller size tops fit. No surprise there. I had pulled some size 14 jeans/pants and some size 16's. I've been wearing 18's. I think everyone knows that you can try something on in your size and it doesn't fit, because of the cut. Well, that happened to me. I fit into one pair of 16's and drumroll please.... I actually fit into a pair of size 14 pants. I started crying right there in the fitting room. I am sure that it has been almost 15 years since I've been able to wear a size 14.

I ended up buying the two pairs of pants/jeans that fit and two pairs that don't fit quite yet, but I really liked them and I know they'll fit sometime in the next couple of months.

So, I do have a message to sharing this story. If you're reading this and you've been struggling, just keep at it. I've been doing pretty well with my portion sizes, but I still want to eat more. I don't eat more, I just get mad that I can't, because I absolutely refuse to go through all this (the surgery, etc.) just to screw it up. My weight loss has been really slow for about 3 weeks, but I'm sticking with it.

P.S. Make the thrift store your friend also. I got three pairs of pants, two shirts, a nice purse that looks brand new, some really cute chunky shoes that also look pretty new and a little knick-knack, all for $35 and some change.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
