Banded 11/18/10 and feeling regretful

Recommended Posts

I'm one week post op and can eat meat, cheese, ice cream... this is BAD! I WISH I had your restriction!!!! Now I have to wait a month to get a fill?! UGH!!!!

Do you have a postop diet? I would be careful with all of that stuff. For most people, at one week out, the diet is still full liquids - no meat or cheese (unless you liquify them I guess)...ice cream is a full liquid but I would be careful with it. And ice cream will slide right through the band regardless of how much restriction you have. When you eat (anything...but especially solids), your stomach churns. Because the band was just attached to your stomach, it hasn't healed and there is a greater risk for it slipping off with all of that churning. I can't imagine eating meat (I don't eat meat anyways...but you know what I mean) at one week post op.

I was banded 11/15/10 and I am finally feeling "almost" normal. You will get there. I was also surprised at how horrible I felt. I actually thought I would be able to go shopping by the end of the first week. NOT! It was much worse than I thought, but thankfully, each day gets a little better. I hate to exercise, but my surgeon said to take a minimum of 10 minute walks 4 times per day. It sucked to get out and do that while holding my side, but it actually made me feel better each time. It helped with gas and soreness in my back from sitting too long. I sipped broth, Protein shakes, and liquid Jello. Fat Free cream of chicken Soup (strained) seemed yummy after all those thin liquids. As for soft/mushy which is what I am on now, I live off canned tuna and chicken. I put the tuna in the food chopper with pickle juice and f.f. mayo. Chicken add some fat free gravy and blend with food chopper. They are both easy for me to get down and a good source of Protein. Hang in there! It will get much better and it will be worth it!! There's so much proof of that on here.

I cried for days after. I have no husband and didn't tell anyone except one friend, so I was alone in the hospital. I sleep a lot and sometimes regret what I've done. My stomach looks like a mess. and my incisions are starting to itch. Someone mentioned not drinking coffee? no one told me that!! I've been eating scrambled eggs and cream of wheat and yogurt. I felt nauseous up until last night. I want a piece of pizza so bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
