I think everyone's surgeon is different regarding when they can eat things. For me, I can not have any bread, potatoes, rice, Pasta, etc. until I have lost 75% of my excess weight. I can have salads about 3 weeks post-op, but only after I have had my 3 ounces of Protein. So, there may not be any room in my pouch to hold a salad. The only option I have is to add some shrimp, crab, chicken, etc. to my salad to get the protein in too. Good luck!

You didn't say how many weeks/months postop you are and what your surgeon told you. My doctor had me back on solid foods at 2 weeks postop so if I wanted (and could eat) salads, then they were permitted. So I was eating salads from 2 weeks postop right up until my first fill. Then they became difficult. Now I can eat them with no problem although romaine gives me difficulties no matter how small I cut it or how well I chew.

I am 6 1/2 wks post op. I have been eating most regular foods since 5 weeks post op. I have not had any bread, Pasta or lettuce salads yet. I have had one fill at my 6 wk appt. I will send an email to my doctor's office. I don't think about it until we r out abd my hubby has a salad. :)

At 6 1/2 weeks postop, you should most likely be back to regular foods and whether or not you can eat them will depend on you and your band. Take small bites, chew well and then wait for a minute after that bite to make sure it goes down ok. Most likely you won't have problems with salads. Some people have a problem with bread even before they get their first fill. So just pay attention to how it feels after you've taken that bite. If you *think* it's going to be a problem, just wait until it resolves itself before taking the next bite or you'll just make it worse.

I started at probably 3 weeks out. Just give it a small try and see how you tolerate it! I was craving salads SO bad!

I don't recall how soon I started with bread. I don't like to eat too much of it, because I don't want it taking up space in my pouch. I've had salad, but the last time, I didn't enjoy it, so I may stay away from it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
