When are the November 22nd bandsters going back to work?

Recommended Posts

I am curious as to when my fellow November 22nd bandsters plan on heading back to work. I teach school and had planned on returning to work on Monday. I am riding the fence now as to whether I should head back Monday or wait until Wednesday. My post-op appointment is on Tuesday. So, I am going to have to miss half a day of work then anyways.

Also, I still have not driven anywhere as I really don't feel up to it yet. I am not really in any physical pain. Instead, I am still weak and tired and it takes a lot of energy just to take a shower. I have tried to get myself moving some by washing clothes and doing little chores around the house. Even so, I am drained after doing that!

Thanksgiving day, I got out and spent the day with family that lives about 45 minutes away. Then, when we returned to town, my hubby, kids, and I went to Wal-Mart. We got a few groceries and my back was killing me after walking on that concrete. I guess I am being a baby.

I was banded Wednesday afternoon, the 24th, so 2 days after you, and I have to return to work monday. I technically will be working a half day sunday as well, a side job of decorating houses for Christmas, but am taking my daughter for the heavy lifting and some of the ladder work. No one knows I had this surgery, so missing work is not an option. I've been out and about and feel really good, but remember, everyone's journey is different, and you have to listen to your BODY!

Very true! I am so glad that you are feeling well enough to get out and do things. I may need to "bite the bullett" tomorrow and at least ride around a little bit. My husband is working twelves through the weekend. So, he hasn't been here to make me get out and go...lol!

I would love to be a part of your side job. Decorating houses for Christmas sounds like so much fun! Do you decorate houses for the rich and famous?!?! I love, love, love Christmas decorations!

I'm new here...but my surgery was 11/22. Officially, I'm back to work on Tuesday, but my "mommy" job starts on Monday (driving toddlers to school, caring for them when they get home and taking care of the house). My DH leaves for a business trip on Tuesday, so I sure hope everything is good!!!

Good Luck ;)

I got banded the same day as you and I am in the same boat. I am a preschool teacher and I know I can't keep up with my kids!! I wish I could say I am one of the many people I know that went back to work like 4 days after surgery. But I am not. I was hoping to be! :)

Listen to your body! I feel that I can go back but can't do all the bending and stuff. And if the gas pain returns in my arm... I will for sure be heading home!! My next doc appointment is not until Dec. 14th. Good luck and don't over do it! Maybe waiting till Wed. is best. Take care!!:D

Welcome tigger and congratualtions! This forum is full of wonderful people who are more than happy to offer support. I am glad you have joined in the fun!!

Stephanie, I know what you mean! I teach 5th grade and don't have to chase any kiddos around. Even so, there is a lot of standing involved and the added stress. I may attempt to take my son to the movies tomorrow. If so, I will see how that goes then make up my mind.

I worked from home the day after my surgery... but that wasn't bad at all. I mostly returned client emails and put out a few fires. I worked pretty normal on Wednesday. Went Black Friday Shopping all night on Thursday-Friday. (With many breaks and took a chair with me just to watch 'the show'.) I'm heading back to the office on Monday full time, but I feel pretty good. I can take it easy and handle it all fine. I agree though - not everyone's body is going to be ready. I have had it pretty good and may even be pushing it a little far so if you're not ready in a week... take as long as you need. It's a marathon - not a race! Good Luck this week!

My tummy is physically growling for the first time today...it's weird.

Good Note: Down 15 lbs!

I'm going back on Tuesday, 11/30. My 1 week Post Op appointment is on Monday, 11/29.

I'm feeling really good, i've returned back to my dance class and have been on the treadmill for 30-40 minutes at a time.

I haven't told any of my coworkers i had it.

I'm scheduled to return on Monday. I haven't been out of the house since surgery and having been guarding my stomach against bumping into things like the sink. I'm sure I'll probably be okay, but I'm just tired and don't really want to go. For the past few days I have been working on a presentation at home that I have to give in staff meeting on Monday. The next few weeks are very busy at work and I'm not looking forward to it. Hopefully once I actually get there I'll feel better about it.

I was banded on the 19th and am scheduled to return to work tomorrow. I really needed this 10 days to recover and am even considering short days the beginning of the week. I have a few good hours in me and that's it! I suppose it's the dehydration and lack of Protein from having a hard time keeping things down. I also have muscle soreness in the abdomen.... keep joking that its like a boxer punched me in the gut a few times. I'm sure it's all normal. Take your time and don't push yourself.

Man, I really envy someone who can already do 30-40 minutes on a treadmill at this point!!! :)

Tomorrow is my post op appointment, so hopefully i'll get the green light on eating more solid foods...i'm ready to eat more healthy and have more weight drop...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
