Outrageous Octobers 2010

Recommended Posts

Hello my fellow Octoberers ...

I was banded 10/23/10. Since my Dr. appointment on Sept 9th, I am down 40 lbs! YaY! I have been at 800 calories a day since two weeks before surgery. I was plateauing/ losing really slowly for a bit. I started exercising at least 30 min a day, 6 days a week and the weight started falling off. Most days I work out longer, but on the "I don't want to" days, at least 30 min. I bought the Reebok Step and it comes with workout DVDs. The beginner workout is 30 min and pretty fun, so that is how I get it in when I don't have time to exercise or just plain old don't want to.

I was banded on 10/25 & have lost 28lbs! I had my first fill on 12/3, added 1cc to the 3.2cc's that was in there from the time of surgery, for a total of 4.2cc's. I've had no problems at all & the fill has helped me stay full/satisfied longer which is what I needed :)

So I weighed myself today and I gain a pound. I don't understand how this happens when I'm eating right and working out. I didn't drink this weekend so it's not that. What can I do to make my scale go down and not up?!!

If your eating a low carb / hi Protein diet, your trying to get your body into ketosis , and alchohol can supply ketones instead of your body burning fat to provide them - I know you mentioned "no drinking' but thought I'd mention it/

I was banded 10/25 and have already had two fills. I am up to 7 ccs. I have had no significant problems for which I am very thankful, but I am a little disappointed that the weight hasn't dropped off more quickly. I exercise at least 5 times a week and write down everything that I eat. I am careful with my calories and am getting in the recommended amount of Protein. I was hoping that with the band I would not be able to eat as much so I wouldn't be so obsessive with the "dieting" aspect. But I feel that, at this point, I still need to closely monitor everything that goes into my mouth yet I still seem to be losing very slowly. I know...everyone is different, but it is still frustrating. On a more positive note, I love that I can eat a fraction of what I used to eat and feel satisfied and not hungry until hours later. YEAH!

I was banded October 29th and have lost only 14lbs since surgery. I had my first fill on December 10th, but do not fel truly restricted. I can feel the food slow down for a moment and then move strait through, and thats only if I dont take my time. If I take small bites and chew well I feel no restriction at all. I am thinking about calling my Doctor to get back in there for another fill rather than waiting a month. On the plus side, no nausea or discomfort, but right now I just feel the same is I did before being banded.

hi all

I was banded on the 25/10 and has only lost 10lbs, I have certain restrictions as to what i can eat but can eat a good portion had to cancel my 1st fill due to weather but rearraged for 14th dec.

I feel so depressed with such a small amount of weight loss I am not very active due to arthritis but do as much as I can. Really feel I have spent all this money for nothing.

Anybody else feel like this or has anyone got any suggestions x x x

You have lost TEN POUNDS!!! You should be proud! That is not a failure, that is a success! Where others gain ten pounds during this season you are losing it! I have only lost 14 lbs and I am fine with that. If you kill yourself to get the weight off that is far from healthy. Slow and steady wins the race, you are headed in the right direction and there is no need to rush. Did you put the weight on overnight? Give your body time. If you dont like how 10lbs sounds then start thinking that your body has burned an additional 35,000 Calories! Good for you! :D

Hi everybody, I was banded on 13 Oct 10. I'm really excited. I've lost 33 lb since pre-op (most of it post). I had my 3rd fill today (16 Dec 10), I'm up to 3.5cc, my dr. only puts approx .5cc per fill, I think this works great because I'm easing into the full restriction. I get 3 meals a day, plus 2 Snacks if I need them. I just want to wish everybody out there GOOD LUCK! there is a long road ahead, but we can DO IT!

:D

Hi everyone, I was banded on October 18th and as of today have lost about 40lbs. I had one fill dec. 9th. They started out by putting 4cc in my band but I could not swallow Water. It actually got stuck in my chest. It was the weirdest feeling ever. She put me right back on the table and took out 1 1/2 cc. I now have 2 1/2 ccs and I feel good. I am thrilled with the weight loss but I do not feel major restriction. Will talk to the nutritionist next week and see if they will try another fill again. What I don't understand though is if I was unable to take the 4cc's initially what would be different that would allow me to take it now. I guess time will tell. Good luck all on this journey. I am happier then ever that I did it. I feel wonderful!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
