Surgery 10 days

I finally scheduled surgery and have it in exactly 10 days and I am scared to death of my final decision. I don't what to expect, what to do, where to start, nothing. I feel I should be feeling more positive about this by this point, I have been pondering on it for years and started the process in May and now its done and all my pre requisits are complete.. just need to wait for December 7th. My issue is, how do I go from eating normal to dieting in one day... what will I be like mentally, will it hurt, do I really want to be restricted from eating what I want,.. am I making a mistake? Any uplifting words of encouragement would help from you guys. You all have been great since I joined this forum last month, I just really don't know what to do or what to expect????????
