CalicoskiesNC 2 Posted November 25, 2010 I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. I think you should talk to the dr's office and tell them you are weak and just not tolerating the liquid Protein supps well. I would think a bland mushy diet could give you some valuable nutrition and energy without jeopardizing your surgery in the next several days. Cottage cheese, low fat yogurts, cream of wheat. I don't understand the wide variations between doctors and their diet restrictions. I only had a 1day clear liq pre-op. I was supposed to do a 7 day clear liq post-op, I couldnt do it. Not because of hunger, because of nausea and NO energy. The clear Protein supps are so gross, esp. after surgery when your tastes are not right. I called my dr, he asked me several questions about my healing, then told me to start on mushies. I have felt 1000% better since then. Amazing what a few TBL of cottage cheese and yogurt can do for one's system.
123crod 170 Posted November 25, 2010 Stick with it. You can do it!! It is all worth it, I promise. I could have spent this last year gaining weight or losing weight, the year would still go by. Find something that can replace food with, such as a book, bath or call up a friend when you get hungry. Every pound you lose now is one less pound you have to lose later. I was on Medifast for a long time once and I drank so much of it that my skin started to smell like the soy. Call your surgeon's office and ask if you can drink a different protien drink instead they would rather you do that than eat. Muscle Milk light chocolate is good and not high in fat. I buy mine at Sams, HEB, Target or GNC. Hang in there you can do it. food does not comfort us, just makes us fat. I also just started a Herbal Cleanse for the next 10 days and I bet it taste worse than what you are drinking Cheri
rktaurus71 4 Posted November 26, 2010 Hi, I'm having my surgery on December 7th! I'm nervous as hell. And I TOO am at war with these shakes. It feels so impossible. Don't feel weak or bad about yourself --- apparently they don't prepare you for the nightmare of the pre-op liquid diet. I had non fat yogurt this morning. Don't tell anyone! I know i should be following the dietitians advice but me and Optifast are at war here, I've taken my shakes plus i've been nibbling (i know) sux. My op is on the 6th of Dec. btrieger 21 Posted November 26, 2010 You have to put it in perspective. It is for a relatively short time, not forever. Stop saying you can't do it and repeat to yourself over and over, "I can do this!" Whenever you get the urge to nibble, go brush your teeth. Nobody nibbles with freshly brushed teeth. Amazing what a few TBL of cottage cheese and yogurt can do for one's system. I agree with you. I was banded on 11/16/10 and was supposed to do 7 day liquid for the pre-op and couldn't do it because of the nausea and headaches. I ate light, low-cal foods right up to the night before the surgery - and stuck with the standard nothing to eat or drink after midnight rule. The surgery went great - no problems at all. It's true every Doctor/Clinic seems to have different pre and post -op guidelines!!
