BCBS Tennessee - anyone dealt with them?

Recommended Posts

I'm awaiting my approval/denial from BCBS (of Tennessee Network P). Anyone dealt with them? How hard is it to get approved? I've already jumped through all their requirement hoops. Please - someone give me some advice on what to expect.

Well my information was all submitted to them by the surgeon's office on November 22, 2010. I got the approval call on December 7. I called the insurance company once or twice and kept steady emails with the surgeon's insurance specialist to make sure to stay on top of it. I would give them a call and see what they can tell you. Good luck!

I went through them and I was told that they respond with an approval or denial within 30 days. I think mine right right about that amount of time. They also try to get you hooked into their Case Management Program. I was really excited about it in the beginning and then it just became a pain in the @. Good luck on your journey!!!

They asked me about case management and I told them I would be fine without it. She did want to call and check on me a few days after surgery but that was fine with me. I just didn't want to deal with the headache of reporting and questions. I guess for someone that needs to be held accountable it may work well for them. I think it would be a pain for me as well... lol

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
